C.B. Aycock at Goldsboro

This one involves two teams on opposite tracks after last week. Goldsboro finally got a win, while Aycock committed six costly turnovers and let a 13-point lead slip away at Greene Central. Not surprisingly, whoever wins the line of scrimmage should emerge victorious at Cougar Stadium.

Eastern Wayne at Wilson Fike

WILSON -- Can anyone remember the last time Eastern Wayne had a 3-0 record in September? Someone might need to check the history books for confirmation if the Warriors knock off the winless Golden Demons on Friday at Bedgood Stadium. Fike has a suspect defense and Eastern Wayne seems to have found a solid offensive game.

Western Harnett at Southern Wayne

DUDLEY -- The visiting Warriors slipped by Lee County last week, while the Saints endured their second straight loss -- a 14-0 shutout at Wilmington Hoggard. Anthony Council continues to shine on Friday night and Emannuel Hinton is doing a solid job running the offense. Non-conference wins are important, but improving weekly -- coach Bob Warren's mantra -- is more crucial when conference play arrives.

Rosewood at Roanoke Rapids

ROANOKE RAPIDS -- Winless in two outings and experiencing growing pains with a young team, the Eagles continue their rivalry against the Class 2-A Yellow Jackets. Rosewood discovered some offensive firepower last week against Hobbton, but the defense yielded 400-plus yards of total offense to the Wildcats. The Eagles' secondary should receive another test against Roanoke Rapids.

Midway at Princeton

PRINCETON -- Undoubtedly one of the top backs in the News-Argus area, Decarius Scarboro racked up another 100-yard game last week against Union. Midway upended Spring Creek and capitalized on a huge momentum-changing play late in the second quarter. The Bulldogs allowed 300-plus yards on the ground against the Spartans, and the Raiders like to run.

Greene Central at Ayden-Grifton

LITTLEFIELD -- Two teams picked to win their respective conferences knock heads Friday evening. The Rams, the preseason top choice in the Eastern Plains 2-A, might have finally figured out the nuances of their 3-5-3 defense under Andre Quinerly's tutelage. Greene Central limited Aycock to one first down in the second half in last Friday's 21-15 win. The Chargers, the preseason No. 1 in the Carolina 1-A, average 41.3 points an outing.

Heide Trask at James Kenan

WARSAW -- James Kenan knocked off Farmville Central in overtime last week and committed just one turnover. That's a far cry from previous weeks in which turnovers and penalties damaged the Tigers' ability to win a football game. Kenan won last year's contest 42-0 in Rocky Point. The Titans carried an unblemished record into Bill Taylor Field this time.

South Lenoir at North Lenoir

LAGRANGE -- South Lenoir hasn't won at Wheat Swamp since 1996 and it beat the Hawks the following season in Deep Run. Since then, North Lenoir has emerged victorious in seven straight meetings between the two schools separated by Highway 70. The Blue Devils can equal their best start since 1996 when they were 4-0 before losing against Greene Central.
