According to Wayne County Athletic Director Dean Sauls, no athletic events have been or are planning to be canceled due to the recent gas shortage at the public schools in the county.

"We've got enough gas to run the yellow buses and activity buses for two weeks," Sauls said in a telephone interview on Thursday. "We're expecting a shipment today or tomorrow, depending on whether or not the pipelines are open or not."

Sauls said if those shipments do not come, they will reassess the situation after the Labor Day holiday on Tuesday.

"Basically it's a waiting game. We're on go until next Tuesday," he said. "We'll come back from the holiday and hope the gasoline supplies are back at the bus garage. We would decide then if something had to be canceled."

Sauls also mentioned conservation was key during this pressing situation.

"We don't have any cancellations yet and we're not expecting to do so," he said. "We're asking all the AD's at our schools to tighten up and try to squeeze on one or two buses."
