JV football -- Jones Senior scores late, turns back Goldsboro

Jones Senior tallied the game-winning touchdown in the final four minutes and handed Goldsboro its second loss of the season 12-6 on Thursday evening.

The Cougars' Jimmy Speight tied the game at 6-6 early in the first half.

Dustin Uzzardo emerged the defensive leader with 10 tackles and three assists. Darren Pittman contributed seven tackles and three assists.

Goldsboro is the guest of Charles B. Aycock next Thursday.

Southern Wayne 8

DUDLEY -- Wilmington Hoggard recovered an onsides kick and converted a third-quarter fumble into a touchdown in a 24-8 victory over Southern Wayne on Thursday evening.

The Saints led 8-7 on Kenny Casper's 5-yard touchdown run and two-point conversion pass from Tyler Edwards to Tristan Bass.

Casper finished with 82 yards rushing, while Kelvin Flow added 50.

Dequan Cozart led the defense with 15 tackles.

Southern Wayne (1-1) travels to Western Harnett next Thursday. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.

C.B. Aycock 24

G. Central 14

PIKEVILLE -- Jevontae Taylor rushed for 125 yards and one touchdown on 23 carries in C.B. Aycock's 24-14 victory over Greene Central at Hardy Talton Stadium.

Dominique Young added 33 yards and a touchdown on two carries. Quarterback Steven Strouse accounted for the final touchdown, a seven-yard sneak.

Taylor led the defense with two interceptions.

C.B. Aycock (2-0) plays host to Goldsboro next Thursday.
