Kinston falls in extra innings

WINSTON-SALEM -- The Winston-Salem Warthogs (35-30, 74-61) defeated the Kinston Indians (32-33, 73-62) by a score of 7-6 in 11 innings Wednesday night in Carolina League play. Juan Ovalles (5-6) earned the victory. Shea Douglass (1-2) took the loss for the Indians.

The Indians took a 1-0 lead after the top of the second inning. Ryan Goleski walked and scored on an Argenis Reyes single to center field. Kinston scored three runs in the top of the third inning to make the score 4-0.

Brian Barton doubled to center and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Barton scored on a RBI groundout by Stephen Head. Ryan Goleski then walked and scored on a Mike Conroy two-run home run. The Hogs scored a run in the bottom of the third inning on a Robert Valido solo home run. This made the score 4-1.

In the top of the fifth inning Ryan Goleski doubled to left and scored on a double to center field by Mike Conroy. This made the score 5-1. The Hogs scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to make the score 5-2. Mike Myers singled to left and scored on a double by Robert Valido. Winston-Salem tied the game at five in the bottom of the sixth inning on a three-run home run by Carlos Lee. Micah Schnurstein and Ricardo Nanita scored on the play.

The Hogs took the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning, making the score 6-5. Robert Valido singled to center, stole second and went to third on a wild pitch. Valido scored on a Leo Daigle single to left field. Robert Valido led the way with three hits. Carlos Lee hit a three run home run in the sixth inning. Ricaro Nanita scored the game winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning to win the game.

The Hogs will play game three of the four game series with the Kinston Indians tonight. First pitch is set for 7p.m. On the mound for the Hogs will be LHP Gio Gonzalez (7-3, 3.80).

On the hill for the Indians will be RHP Sean Smith (5-7, 3.48). All play-by-play can be heard on www.warthogs.com.
