MOC women drill Converse

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Gina Dos Santos and Brittney Robich scored two goals apiece and Lyndsay Brennan recorded four assists to lead Mount Olive to an 8-2 victory over Converse in Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference women's soccer Sunday at Spartanburg. The win is the 11th in a row for the Trojans, which ended the 2004 season on a nine-match winning streak.
Mount Olive (2-0-0 overall, 1-0-0 CVAC) scored in the opening minute on a goal by Dos Santos, who scored four goals in the Trojans' season opener the day before. Converse (0-2-0, 0-2-0) tied the match 1-1 in the 21st minute on a goal by Mendy Dillard.
The Trojans closed the first half with three unanswered goals, including a penalty kick by April Jacobs as Mount Olive went into halftime with a 4-1 lead. Caitlyn Wright added a penalty kick in the 71st minute to give the Trojans a four-goal lead, but Converse answered on Paige Kohler's direct kick to pull within 5-2. Mount Olive closed out the match with three more goals.
Jackie Jimenez and Jessica Smoot each scored a goal for the Trojans, while Emily Escolas and Kate Painter each recorded an assist. Ali O'Steen and Heather Ulep each played one half at goal, each allowing a goal and recording two saves.
The 2005 season marks Converse's first year as an affiliate member of the CVAC.
Mount Olive is off until Saturday when the Trojans begin a Labor Day Weekend trip to Florida.
Mount Olive faces Florida Tech on Saturday, then takes on Flagler on Sunday.
