BEAR CREEK -- North Duplin managed just seven first downs and posted just one touchdown in a 12-6 loss at Chatham Central on Friday in a non-conference contest.

The game was the Rebels' season opener.

Keyed by James Rives and Seth Kivette, Chatham Central rushed for 254 yards on 54 carries, but could only muster two touchdowns. The Bears' first score came late in the first half on a 12-yard pass from Spencer Andrews to Kyle Scott -- marking the only touchdown before intermission as the score stood 6-0 at the half. Chatham Central fumbled inside the Rebel 5, twice in the first half.

Chatham Central completed its scoring four minutes into the fourth as Kivette rushed in from four yards out to make it 12-0 after the two-point conversion failed.

North Duplin (0-1) finally got on the board midway through the fourth period when sophomore quarterback Brad Lloyd scored on a 1-yard plunge to cut the lead to 12-6 after the kick failed. Lloyd led North Duplin's rushing attack with 66 yards on 16 carries, while senior running back Montreal Garner had 57 yards on 11 carries.

Lloyd was 3-for-11 with 19 passing yards and no interceptions.

Rives rushed for 123 yards for Chatham Central (1-1) as Kivette had 80 yards. The duo combined for 43 carries.

North Duplin hosts Hampstead Topsail next week. The Rebels won last year's meeting 12-8.
