Keys beat K-Tribe

KINSTON -- The Kinston Indians blew a four-run lead in the top of the ninth and Frederick won for the eighth straight game, defeating the K-Tribe 6-5 before 636 fans Monday night at historic Grainger Stadium.

Frederick improved to 33-21 in the second half and 68-56 overall, while Kinston fell to 26-31 and 67-60.

Things looked good for Kinston early on, as the Indians got a single and two walks to load the bases with no one out in the bottom of the first.

Keys starter Carlos Jan escaped unharmed however, as Stephen Head popped out and Rodney Choy Foo grounded into the first of what would turn in to four double plays on the night to end the inning.

The Indians did break through in the second though, as Brian Barton walked to leadoff the inning and went to second on a grounder for the second out. After Jan got the ball back though, he lost track of Barton and the speedster took off for third base. The infielders screamed for Jan to throw to third, but he threw the ball away down the left field line as Barton came in to score.

That run was plenty for Indians starter Adam Miller, who faced just two over the minimum as he cruised through six shutout innings.

Kinston then picked up three more runs in the bottom of the sixth.
