Post 11 Juniors split with Pitt County West

DUDLEY -- Wayne County Post 11 prevailed in a suspended game against Pitt County West, but dropped the nightcap in a Junior American Legion doubleheader Thursday evening at Southern Wayne High School.

Garrett Barfield, Walker Gourley and Michael Mintz each ripped a double as Post 11 finished off West 11-3 in the first game. Gourley and Mintz combined for two RBI.

Nolan Lancaster emerged the offensive leader with two hits and an RBI in three at-bats.

Taylor Sutton picked up the mound win.

Barfield, Gourley and Chris Massey each banged out two hits apiece in the second game -- an 8-2 loss. Mintz and Lancaster provided one hit each for Wayne County, which slipped to 4-4 in the conference.

Sutton suffered the pitching loss.

Post 11 returns to action today at Aycock. Game time is 7 p.m.

Post 94 Juniors fall

SNOW HILL -- Pitt County East claimed an 11-0 decision against Snow Hill Post 94 on Thursday evening. Officials halted the contest after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Robert Tyndall and Spencer Albritton tallied one hit each for Post 94.

Jordan Corbett was the losing pitcher.

Snow Hill (3-10) is the guest of Lenoir County on Saturday. Game time is 6 p.m. at North Lenoir High School.

Babe Ruth softball

14U -- Wayne County and Kinston/Lenoir County battled to a 1-1 split in their best-of-three series. Lauren Darden collected the mound win in the second game -- a 10-2 Wayne County decision.

16U -- Julia Lancaster threw a shutout in Wayne County's 14-0 win against Duplin County. The contest was called after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule. The teams play again today at 1 p.m. The series winner advances to the state tournament in New Bern.

12U -- Carrie Martin threw a no-hitter in Wayne County's 25-2 pasting of Duplin County. Game two is Saturday at 11 a.m. at Snow Hill.
