Scott provides key outing for Post 94

AHOSKIE -- Snow Hill's Jordan Scott went 3-for-4 with a home run, double and three RBI as Post 94 outlasted Ahoskie 7-6 in their American Legion opener on Tuesday.

Hunter Chase added three hits and three RBI for Snow Hill (1-0), while Drew Sowers picked up the win in three innings of relief. Chip Wall started and went the first six innings.

Ryan Simmons posted two hits for Ahoskie.

Snow Hill (1-0) overcame five errors in the win, while Post 102 had four miscues.

Post 94, which outhit Ahoskie 10-7, returns to action tonight at Edenton. Snow Hill takes Wednesday off before playing four consecutive games beginning Thursday at Benson. Post 94's home opener is Friday against Kinston.

Dixie Youth Minors

Saulston 7, Falcons 4 -- Jeremy Lancaster had three hits and two RBI, while Tyler Hutter posted two RBI. Logan Runyon went the distance on the mound, striking out 13 against one walk. Saulston (12-1) faces Mar Mac today.

Walnut Creek Ladies Golf

Faye Franklin emerged the play of the day champion for weekly competition ending May 29.

Charlotte Campbell took low gross. Linda Cannon and Frankie Farfour won low net and low putts, respectively.

Lane Tree Ladies Golf

For the week ending May 29, Carol Lane took home low net, while Lane and Jelette Culbreth took home game-of-the-week.

Culbreth also won low putts.

Hawg Breath Bass Club

Mike Norwood and Howard Modlin claimed the top spot during tournament action May 14 on the Roanoke River.

Brian Millhorn and Scott Smeltzer finished second. Bill Thompson and Lou Cook ended up third, followed by the tandem of club newcomer Carl Griffith and guest Steve VanBuren.

Norwood also won big-fish accolades.

The next tournament is scheduled June 18-19 at Lake Gaston.

Hole-in-one

Ernie Vinson, after a late arrival, drew admiration from his golfing mates recently at Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course. Vinson hurriedly grabbed a 5-wood and fired a perfect strike into a stiff wind on the par-3, 169-yard No. 4 hole.

A minute or so later, Vinson realized he had aced the hole. It was the second hole-in-one for him.

John Lee Garris, James Ratliff, Rob Godbey and Doug Durham witnessed the feat.
