Darden-Hall blister opposition

EDENTON -- Greene Central's top-seeded tandem of Brent Darden-Lin Hall dropped just one game en route to seizing the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 2-A eastern regional doubles title on the John A. Holmes courts.

Darden-Hall remained unbeaten in 18 outings and clinched a berth in next weekend's NCHSAA Individual Championships. Darden collected his 55th consecutive victory in doubles play, including last year's 37-0 mark with former doubles partner Andrew Hulbert. The duo became the program's first-ever NCHSAA men's doubles champions a year ago.

Darden-Hall, the region's top seed, blistered three opponents by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores. They dropped a game in the second set against Holmes' Alex Boehling-Collins Small, the region's No. 2 seed.

Joining Darden-Hall in next weekend's state finals are teammates Banks Nimmo-Travis Moore and North Lenoir's tandem of Alex Mills-Jared O'dell.

Nimmo-Moore (10-2) fell to Boehling-Small in the semifinal round. They eliminated the Hawks' doubles of Jerry Mills-Ryan Ipock 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-2 in Friday's first-round match.

Mills-O'dell (14-4) claimed a pair of straight-set victories before running into Darden-Hall in the semifinals. The duo eliminated North Pitt's Cory Ward-Ronald Redmond and Croatan's Johnny Chase-Pete Von Stein.

In singles, all three Eastern Plains Conference entries endured either first- or second-round defeats.

North Lenoir's James Parker dropped a 6-3, 6-0 decision against Holmes' Mike Potocki.

Greene Central's Chris Hardy, the No. 3 seed, ousted a Tarboro player in the opening round before losing 6-2, 6-1 against unseeded Thad Wester of South Brunswick. Teammate Bryan Pollock was a first-round casualty against First Flight's William Gray, the region's No. 2 seed.

Game times changed

Eastern Wayne's matchup with Wilson Fike in the third round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 3-A women's soccer playoffs has been changed to 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Charles B. Aycock softball coach David West announced Monday the Golden Falcons will play host to Triton in the NCHSAA 3-A playoffs at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Track and field

Warrior relay 6th overall

GREENSBORO -- The Eastern Wayne women's 1,600-meter relay team placed sixth in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 3-A Track and Field Championships contested Friday at N.C. A&T State University.

The quartet of Alex Randall, Noelle Kelly, Nikki Allen and Alyssa Artis turned in a time of 4 minutes, 13 seconds.
