WILSON -- Charles B. Aycock's doubles combination of Danny Fairchild and Brandon Howard fell in three sets to Washington's Kevin Stancil and Ben Peele in the Class 3-A Eastern Regional doubles championship, 2-6, 6-2, 6-0.
Still, Fairchild and Howard, along with Eastern Wayne's Ben Ziccardi and Alex Bryant qualified as doubles tandems for the N.C. High School Athletic Association Championships on Friday and Saturday at the Burlington Tennis Center.
In singles, the Warriors' Andrew Ziccardi reached the semifinals, before falling to West Brunswick's Sam Hickman. Ziccardi also qualified for the state tourney.
Eastern Wayne's doubles team of Andrew and Taylor Jackson and singles competitor Jared Stone advanced to the second round of the Eastern Regional.

WCDS falls
to Covenant Day
WILSON -- Coming off of a huge win at Greenfield School in the second round of the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A playoffs, Wayne Country Day suffered a 10-0 loss to Covenant Day-Matthews in the Final Four on Friday at the Bert Gillette Soccer Complex in Wilson.
Covenant jumped out to a 7-0 lead before halftime.
"They were well-coached. They were phenomenal," WCDS coach Juliet Jones said.
Christin Grubb, Sarah Coleman, Mimi Bridgers and Amanda Knutson played in their final game for the Chargers.
"Beating Greenfield was their dream. They had never had that opportunity in that situation," Jones said. Eventhough we didn't win this game, we feel like we accomplished a lot."
Ellen Elmore finished with nine saves in goal for WCDS.

Rams, NL
to meet in EPC final
TARBORO -- Greene Central's Elizabeth Cooper singled home Amber Oakes in the top of the eighth for the game-winning run as the Rams defeated North Pitt 3-2.
The win was Greene Central's first in three tries against the second-place Panthers this season. The Rams move on to face North Lenoir on Monday at 7 p.m. in the Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference championship.
If Greene Central (11-8) wins, it will advance to the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs and North Pitt will be bumped out of the second spot.
Brittany Leggett had two hits, including a home run, and two RBI. Cassie Webb went the distance on the mound, yielding three runs on five hits. Webb struck out seven against two walks.
In the other semifinal, North Lenoir defeated South Lenoir 3-0.
Chanae Lynch, Brittany McPhail and Morgan Worthington got the lone hits for the Hawks. Worthington struck out 12 Blue Devils, yielding only one hit, one walk, and hitting one batter.
On Friday, Cooper finished with two hits and three RBI in the Rams' 11-2 win over SouthWest Edgecombe in the first round.
