VANCEBORO -- Eastern Wayne's Miles Perry turned in medalist honors at Quaker Neck on Thursday as the Warriors and Charles B. Aycock finished tied at 315 in a Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference match.

With one match left before the conference tournament, the Golden Falcons remain in first place with a 46-stroke lead on West Carteret, which finished second on Thursday at 317.

Washington took third with 342, while South Central (345) and Southern Wayne (362) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Kinston (375) and West Craven (404) rounded out the team scoring.

Ryan Walderman shot a 77 to pace Aycock as Ryan Campbell and Jonathan Burke each shot 80.

Eastern Wayne's Lance Ramsey backed Perry's effort with an 80, while teammates Ryan Dunn (81) and Nick Barrow (84) also contributed in the scoring.

Sam Britt paced Southern Wayne with an 81 with Morgan Hill (86), Jay Connelley (97) and Jared Jackson (98) also contributing.

The final regular-season, ECC match will be Tuesday in Morehead City.

Baseball

WCDS cruises

in non-conference tilt

Wayne Country Day's Kevin Logan had three hits, including a home run, with six RBI as the Chargers pounded Word of God-Raleigh 27-0 in four innings on Thursday.

The win improves WCDS to 4-11 overall.

Cameron Ford and Travis Davis each added two hits each for the Chargers, who host Kerr-Vance on Tuesday.

Kevin Herring picked up the win, pitching two innings -- allowing one hit, no walks and notching four strikeouts. Ford tossed the final two innings.

Conquerors top

Trinity-Greenville

Faith Christian's Steven Sloan had three hits, including a home run in the Conquerors 13-4 win over Trinity of Greenville on Tuesday.

All nine starters recorded a hit for Faith, which travels to Mount Calvary on Monday.

T.J. Sasser picked up the win in four innings of work, striking out four. Alley-Ray Darby came on in relief to strike out five in the final three innings.

Tennis

Gators triumph

at home

Spring Creek won four-of-six singles matches on Thursday at home against SouthWest Edgecombe and emerged with a 6-3 win in Class 2-A Eastern Plains/1-A Carolina Conference action.

In singles, Cliff Wilson and Ricky Galloway won in straight sets for the Gators, while Justin Smith and Brandon Strickland battled to claim victories in three sets.

The doubles combinations of Wilson-Galloway and Phat Tran-Strickland also emerged with wins.

Spring Creek (9-4, 9-3 EPC/Carolina) hosts Rosewood on Monday.

Warriors sweep

S. Wayne

Eastern Wayne won all six singles matches against Southern Wayne in straight sets as the Warriors cruised to a 9-0 win on Thursday in Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference play.

Drew Ziccardi, Jared Stone, Drew Jackson, Ben Ziccardi, Alex Bryant and Lee Ingles emerged with singles wins. In doubles, the combinations of Michael Moore-Matt McLamb, Sterling Blackmon-John Stedman, Jonathan Hartley-Graham Price helped Eastern Wayne close out the sweep.

The Warriors return to the courts on Tuesday at Charles B. Aycock. 0

NL's Sanders

tosses no-hitter

LAGRANGE -- Brittany Sanders threw her first-ever no-hitter as North Lenoir pounded Tarboro High 21-0 in a Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference softball game Thursday evening.

Sanders recorded 11 strikeouts in a contest shortened to 4 1/2 innings due to the 10-run mercy rule. She also helped her cause offensively with three hits, including a triple, in four at-bats.

Senior catcher Randi Moulton, who has signed with Pitt Community College, slapped a home run in a 2-for-3 showing.

Chanee Lynch, Leslie Oliver, Emily Brown and Nicole Howard provided two hits apiece. Brown also tripled.

North Lenoir (13-1, 4-1) begins second-half conference play at home next Tuesday against archrival South Lenoir. Game time is 7 p.m.

Track

Lady Rams prevail

PINETOPS -- Greene Central captured first place in three relays and four individual events, and swept an Eastern Plains 2-A Conference tri-meet Wednesday afternoon at SouthWest Edgecombe.

The Rams edged South Lenoir 70-64, while the Cougars scored 40 points.

Teketia May prevailed in the long jump with a distance of 31 feet, 9 inches. Sheneka King won the shot put (31-2).

Sprinter Brittney Belcher ran the 100 in 12.7 seconds, with teammate Kwan McPhail close behind at 12.91. Nicole Robinson won the 800 in 2:52.

Belcher participated on the winning 400- and 800-meter relays. May ran the first leg on the 1,600 relay.

Greene Central improved to 6-0-1.

Soccer

Rosewood rolls

Erin Thibodeau and Stephanie Behrend each tallied two goals in Rosewood's 5-0 win against Spring Creek in Carolina/Eastern Plains 1-A/2-A play Wednesday evening at Branch Pope Field.

Thibodeau and Behrend each recorded an assist for the Eagles, who improved to 5-1 in conference play.

Rachel McCormick added a first-half goal.

Keeper Molly Grantham earned the shutout.

Rosewood (5-3-1) returns to action Monday at North Lenoir.

JV baseball

Golden Falcons roll

DUDLEY -- Less than 24 hours after limiting Greene Central to one hit in a five-inning victory, Charles B. Aycock's Jay Rose slapped a home run in a 14-3 conquest of Southern Wayne on Thursday afternoon.

Brandon Price singled and doubled, and drove in three runs for the Golden Falcons. Zach Wright provided five RBI, including a three-run triple. Jordan Carr singled and doubled, and plated one run.

Bryant Hill, Daniel Stancil, Evan Medford, Nick Weaver and Cameron Powell each delivered hits for Aycock (12-1).

Ricky Oddon drove in one run for the Saints. Teammates Doogie Niemond, Matt Holmes, Ren Dewitt and Kevin Sloan each contributed one hit.

Price collected the pitching win for Aycock and struck out seven in the contest shortened to five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Byron Powell took the loss for Southern Wayne.

JV softball

Aycock gets win

PIKEVILLE -- Brittany Ford and Stevie Savage each belted a triple as C.B. Aycock stopped Southern Wayne 7-2 in an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference game Thursday afternoon.

Ford finished the day 2-for-4 for the Golden Falcons, who remained perfect in eight outings. Savage's triple was her lone hit in four plate appearances.

Leigh Smith, Leiren Tillman, LeeAnn Sager, Maegan Lee and Brooke Edgerton provided one hit apiece.

Emily Jordan emerged the winning pitcher, scattering five hits and striking out six in a complete-game effort.

Brianna Loftin led the Saints with two hits.

C.B. Aycock (8-0, 5-0 ECC) entertains North Johnston next Wednesday afternoon.

Middle schools

Norwayne baseball 10, Grantham 3 -- David Gurganus emerged the winning pitcher. Tyler Ruffin and Will Edgerton each had two hits. Norwayne (9-1) improved to 4-0 in Wayne County Middle School Athletic Conference Division I play.

Norwayne baseball 17, Greenwood 1 -- Will Edgerton and Jordan Quinn combined for a one-hitter, with Edgerton getting the win. Greg Champion, Nick Bassett, Anderson Barnes and Quinn each had two hits. The Cobras (10-1, 5-0 Division I) entertain Eastern Wayne next Wednesday afternoon.

Spring Creek baseball 11, Mount Olive 10 -- Steven Best had four hits for Spring Creek, while teammates Lucas Potter and Jackson Keel added two hits each in the nine-inning affair. Tyler Edwards and Joseph Otellio paced Mount Olive offensively. Eric Evans got the win on the mound in relief for the Gators (5-5, 3-2 Division II). Edwards picked up the loss in nine innings of work. Spring Creek hosts Greenwood on Monday.

Brogden baseball 17, Goldsboro 2 -- Dylan Moody had three RBI for Brogden, while Scott Holloman knocked in two. Michael Lovelace got the win on the mound for the Rams -- striking out seven in three innings. Brogden (5-5, 3-3) travels to Grantham on Monday.

Grantham softball 17, Dillard 0 -- Tara Hirsch recorded eight strikeouts on the mound. Taylor Reaves batted 2-for-3, including a double. April Tucker, Darian Edwards and Sabrina Newsome each batted 2-for-3. The Bulldogs improved to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in Division II play.

Grantham softball 18, Dillard 0 -- Tara Hirsch threw a no-hitter and collected three strikeouts. Carrie Martin turned in a 3-for-3 effort. Christina Williams doubled in a two-hit effort. Taylor Reaves doubled and belted a home run. Morgan Davis added two hits, including a home run. Hirsch had three hits, including a double. Grantham (7-2, 4-0 Division II) entertains Brogden next Monday afternoon.
