Eastern Wayne's Leanna Rothwell scored two goals in the first half to help boost the Warriors to a 5-0 win at home over South Central on slippery conditions on Wednesday.
All five of Eastern Wayne's five goals came in the first half with Deniz Alemdar, Anne Archer and Kasie Edwards tallying one goal each. Samantha Frazer dished out one assists for the Warriors (6-3 overall), who improved to 5-0 in the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference.
Eastern Wayne outshot South Central 12-0.
The Falcons (2-7 overall) dropped to 0-5 in conference play.
Eastern Wayne returns to action on Friday at home against fellow league-unbeaten West Carteret.
Baseball
Rebels drill Dixon
HOLLY RIDGE -- North Duplin improved to 5-7 Wednesday with a 17-4 win at Dixon High School.
Brad LLoyd led the way, going seven innings on the mound -- scattering eight hits, walking two and striking out six. Lloyd also went 2-for-5 at the plate with three runs scored and two RBI.
The Rebels socred two runs in the fifth inning, one on a wild pitch and the other on a Josh Marquez sacrifice fly to take a 5-3 lead. Four more runs came in the sixth, with Wade Sasser and Matt Braswell having key RBI hits.
Braswell now has a nine-game hitting streak.
The Bulldogs scored another run in the sixth to make it 9-4 but North Duplin broke it open with eight runs in the seventh, sending 13 batters to the plate.
North Duplin hosts Spring Creek on April 19.
Golf
Eagles fall on road
FAYETTEVILLE -- Wayne Christian's Jonathan Greene fired a 41 as the Eagles suffered a non-conference loss at Bayonet Country Club in Fayetteville on Tuesday.
Wayne Christian finished at 170 to Fayetteville's 156.
Eric Williams shot a 42, while teammate Clark Rose notched a 43. Chad Smith and Andrew Radford each shot 44 as Matt Davis (45) also participated.
The Eagles (7-3 overall) take on Cape Fear Friday at Walnut Creek.
Middle schools
Frink 6, C.M. Eppes -- Jesse Shimer and Ryan Kramer scored twice for Frink (9-0), while Justin Stokes and Sasha Holeman posted one goal each. The Cavaliers travel to A.G. Cox on April 20.
Keller Williams golf
GREENVILLE -- In an April 9 Keller Williams Golf Tour event at Bradford Creek, Goldsboro's Kevin Harrington finished first in the A flight with a 75, while Goldsboro natives Norm Hicks (80) and Robert Blair finished fourth and sixth, respectively. In the B Flight, J.T. Taylor took third with an 85. The next Keller Williams event his April 23 at Maccripine Country Club.
