MOUNT OLIVE -- Mount Olive College infielder Stephen Nordan has been named the NCAA Division II Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference baseball player of the week.

Nordan becomes the fourth Trojans baseball player to earn the weekly award, joining designated hitter Josh Carter and pitchers Philip Pennington and Justin Staatz.

Nordan, a sophomore from Benson, drove in what proved to be the game-winning run in two of Mount Olive's four wins last week to help the Trojans post a 4-0 record during the week and extend their winning streak to a season-high six games.

Nordan hit .500 in Mount Olive's three-game sweep on the road at Shepherd (W. Va.) College, ranked No. 5 in the Great Lakes Region. Nordan went 4-for-5 in the second game of the series, clearing the bases with a bases-loaded single in the top of the 12th inning to lead the Trojans to an 8-6 victory.

He had two hits in the first game at Shepherd and hit a three-run homer in the series finale. In a non-conference game at St. Andrews, Nordan's RBI-single in the top of the ninth broke a 4-4 tie and capped a four-run rally as the Trojans erased a three-run deficit for a 5-4 victory.

Nordan hit .474 for the week and drove in nine runs in four games. For the season, Nordan ranks sixth in the CVAC with a .410 batting average and is tied for 29th in the nation in doubles per game.

Nordan is the only Trojan to have started in all 44 games this season. He has split time at third base, second base, catcher and designated hitter.

Mount Olive (22-22, 10-11 CVAC) wraps up conference play this weekend with a three-game series at home against Pfeiffer University. The two teams play a doubleheader Saturday at 4 p.m. and a single game Sunday at 1 p.m. at Scarborough Field.
