PREP ROUNDUP: Langston leads WCDS in defeat

WILSON -- Wayne Country Day's Trent Langston finished with two RBI in the Chargers' 12-2 loss at Greenfield on Monday.
The game was called after the top of the fifth due to the 10-run rule.
Wayne Country Day starter Ryan Ford pitched the first 31/3, yielding nine runs (six earned) on nine hits with two walks and one strikeout. Kevin Logan entered in relief in the bottom of the third -- finishing the game and allowing three runs (none earned) on two hits.
The Chargers (3-7, 1-3 Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference) were plagued by four errors.
Kevin Herring added a double for Wayne Country Day, which returns to action today at home against Halifax Academy.
North Lenoir
drops Bruins
WILSON -- North Lenoir's Brandon Sutton struck out 11 in 52/3 innings of work as the Hawks defeated Wilson Beddingfield 7-1 at the Bruins' field on Monday.
North Lenoir improved to 10-2 overall heading into today's game at Greene Central.
Sutton yielded just one earned run on two hits with four walks. Dustin Bannister tossed the last 11/3 for the Hawks.
Donald Beal paced North Lenoir offensively with three hits and two runs, while Brandon Sutton had two hits and an RBI. Jacob Alphin drove in three with one hit for the Hawks.

Charles B. Aycock's Jay Rose pitched 51/3 innings, striking out seven on four hits, as the Golden Falcons topped Eastern Wayne 9-3 last Friday.
Rose helped his cause with two hits, while teammate Jordan Carr added three hits, including a triple and a double. Brandon Price, who tossed 12/3 innings of shutout relief, provided two hits and three RBI at the plate.
Aycock (9-1, 6-0 Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference) hosts Washington today.

Princeton takes
second
PRINCETON -- Princeton's Gerrell Bogle finished first in three events as the Bulldogs tied with Ayden-Grifton for second place in a Class 1-A Carolina Conference meet on Monday.
North Johnston finished with 86 team points, while the Bulldogs and Chargers had 51 points.
Bogle took first in the long jump (17'11''), triple jump (39'22'') and 200 meter (24.2). The Bulldogs also got a first-place finish from Landon Myers, who had a 97'2'' discus throw.
Princeton returns to action on Thursday at North Johnston.

top Cape Fear
DUNN -- Wayne Christian's Matt Davis fired a school-record 34 for the second time in as many weeks as the Eagles topped Cape Fear 153-199 at Pine Hills South.
Jonathan Greene added a 37 for Wayne Christian, while Chad Smith and Clark Rose shot 37 and 40, respectively. Teammates Andrew Radford (42), Clark Rose (43) and Hayden Gardner (43) also participated for the Eagles.
Wayne Christian (7-2, 5-0 Carolina Christian 1-A Conference) travels to Fayetteville Christian today.

Wayne Country Day emerged with two-of-three wins in doubles and defeated Greenfield School in Coastal Plains Independent 1-A/2-A Conference play on Monday.
The doubles combinations of David Wilson-Byron Bryan and George Mayo-Luxman Srikantha helped secure the win for the Chargers.
In singles, David Wilson, Alex Proimos and Fred Ha all won for Wayne Country Day, which travels to Rocky Mount Academy on Thursday.
Middle schools
Norwayne 12, Grantham 1 -- Will Edgerton had three hits for the Cobras and picked up the win, while Tyler Ruffin tallied two hits. Greg Champion had a grand slam for Norwayne (6-1, 2-0). The Cobras travel to Dillard on Wednesday.
Brogden baseball 16, Greenwood 6 -- Scott Holloman got the win for Brogden -- yielding four hits in five innings. Holloman helped his cause with a 4-for-4, five RBI effort with two doubles and two home runs. Charles Broggi and Raymond Velazquez had three hits each for the Rams. Brogden (4-1, 2-0) hosts Eastern Wayne Thursday.

Rosewood Braves 4, SJAFB 3 -- Dustin Allen had two hits for Rosewood, while Nathan Pounds got the win on the mound. Jacob Braddy had two hits for Seymour Johnson. Rosewood (2-1) hosts Saulston today.
Boys Club Eagles 9, Rosewood Braves 6 -- Will Winslow had three hits, two RBI and a home run for Boys Club as Jayme Van Horn posted three hits and three RBI. Nick Baker and Chayse Brabham had two hits and two RBI. Baker got the win in 32/3 innings as Winslow pitched 11/3 inning for the save.
Babe Ruth 11-12
Eastern Wayne Warriors 12, Fremont Gold 1-- Nolan James pitched a two-hitter, striking out eight. Jonathan Carter had two hits with a home run, while teammate Jonathan Jenkins also had two hits.
