Davis records 250th career win at CBA

WILSON -- The Charles B. Aycock baseball team presented veteran head coach Charles Davis with his 250th career victory Friday -- an 8-1, non-conference decision against Wilson Beddingfield.

Jackson Massey delivered his first-ever varsity home run, a two-RBI blast in the second inning, as the Golden Falcons (6-3) captured their fourth consecutive victory. Massey finished the day with two hits in three plate appearances.

Thomas Pilkington and Drew McGowan provided two hits and an RBI apiece. McGowan also doubled in his three at-bats.

Joseph Taylor contributed two RBI, while Bradley Taylor tripled in three trips to the plate. Overall, Aycock managed 11 hits against three Bruin pitchers, including starter Chris Jones who was saddled with the loss.

Davis employed four pitchers on a cloudy afternoon.

Adam Williams surrendered three hits and struck out four batters in a two-inning stint. Alex Raper threw two innings of two-hit, shutout relief and received the mound win. Grant Sasser and Garrett Davis combined for three innings of no-hit, eight-strikeout relief.

In their last four games, the Aycock pitching staff has yielded one earned run in 28 innings to go along with 40 strikeouts.

"Over Easter that's something that we wanted to do," coach Davis said of the pitch-by-committee strategy. "To be honest, I didn't think we were really particularly sharp and we hadn't played in over a week.

"At least it was good to get out and play, and be able to get a game in."

Massey's two-run blast led to a five-run uprising in the second inning.

Taylor slapped a lead-off triple against Jones and scored on Pilkington's single. Massey cleared the bases with his home run to give the Golden Falcons, of the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference, a 3-0 advantage.

Toler added an RBI single and McGowan, who singled, eventually scored on a wild pitch.

Aycock added two runs in the fifth and one in the seventh.

Beddingfield, of the Big Eight North 3-A Conference, avoided the shutout with a second-inning run.

The Golden Falcons continue play at home today against unbeaten North Lenoir. The Hawks (8-0) are ranked No. 4 in the latest ImpactBaseball.com 2-A poll. Game time has been moved to 5 p.m.

Falcons roll to win

PIKEVILLE -- Four C.B. Aycock pitchers combined for a three-hitter and 10 strikeouts in a 23-1, non-conference victory against Wilson Beddingfield on Friday afternoon.

Officials called the contest after 41/2 innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Brandon Price threw two innings and claimed the pitching win. Head coach Trevor Pilkington also put Jay Rose, Patrick Myers and Bryant Hill on the mound for the once-beaten Golden Falcons.

Rose, Evan Medford, Matt Lane and Daniel Stancil each had two hits for Aycock. Cameron Crawford and Kevin Carmel collected one hit apiece.

Pilkington's club also benefited from 13 walks issued by Beddingfield pitchers.

The Golden Falcons (6-1) are the guests of North Lenoir this afternoon.
