Mazey wins No. 100 at East Carolina

GREENVILLE --Despite falling behind 4-0 in the second inning, ECU came back to defeat Campbell Wednesday night 6-5 at Clark-LeClair Stadium in non-conference action.

Head coach Randy Mazey picked up his 100th win at ECU in the one-run victory over the Camels. Mike Grace hit his fourth homer of the season and smacked a two-run double while Chris Powell earned his first career win in a Pirate uniform.

East Carolina improves to 15-9 overall while Campbell falls to 13-11 on the season.

Grace led ECU offensively, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run on the night. Mark Minicozzi finished 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run while Drew Costanzo plated two runs, going 1-for-2 with two walks.

Scott Andrews started for ECU, tossing three innings, giving up four runs, none of which were earned. The junior left-hander allowed five hits while striking out two Campbell batters. Powell (1-0) earned the win in relief of Andrews, going 22/3 innings, allowing one run on two hits while walking two. Jason Neitz tossed two innings, allowing just one hit while striking out two. T.J. Hose picked up his second save of the season, no runs on just one hit while striking out two in 11/3 innings of work.

Campbell's Jeff Randol threw 41/3 innings, allowing six runs on seven hits while striking out two and walking two. Nate Logan, Austen Hawkey and Jordan Topal all pitched in relief of Randol.

Tim Holt led the Camels with three hits, going 3-for-5 with two RBI. Justin Phillips and Jeff Blick also finished with two hits in the ballgame.

Campbell scored four runs in the top of the first to take the early lead. Joe Anthonsen reached on an error by second baseman Brett Lindgren with the bases loaded before Holt hit a single to center, scoring two more.

The Pirates plated their three runs in the third, cutting the lead to 4-3. After a Costanzo walk, Minicozzi doubled down the leftfield line to score Costanzo from first. Grace then followed with his fourth homer of the season with a towering two-run shot to left, scoring Minicozzi.

After Ryan Peisel doubled to lead off the inning, Brian Cavanaugh moved him to third on a sacrifice bunt before Dale Mollenhauer brought Peisel home on a groundout to second, tying the game at four.

Grace drove in two more with a double landing deep down the rightfield line, scoring Harrison Eldridge from second and Costanzo from first, giving ECU a 6-4 lead.

Campbell got a run back in the top of the sixth when Blick singled to center, scoring Forbes from to cut the Pirate lead to 6-5.

ECU will travel to Fort Worth, Texas to face TCU in the third conference series of the season April 1-3. Game times are set for 8 p.m. on Friday, 3 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
