PINEHURST -- Eastern Wayne High School graduate Lindsey Snyder captured first place out of 15 golfers in the women's competition, while Mount Olive finished third out of 15 teams in the men's competition as the Trojans competed in the St. Andrews Spring Invitational this week at Woodlake Resort and Golf Club in Pinehurst.

Snyder, a junior from Goldsboro, shot a two-round total of 82-87--169 to finish two shots ahead of three golfers tied for second. Snyder held a two-shot lead at the end of the first round.

The win marked the first collegiate individual tournament championship for Snyder and was also the first in the history of the Mount Olive women's golf program, which is in its third year.

Kate Somek finished eighth with a 96-89--185, while Kristen Freeman placed ninth with a 100-92--192. Mount Olive did not have enough golfers for the team standings.

On the men's side, Mount Olive was in second place with a score of 301 after 18 holes, trailing first-round leader Abilene Christian (Texas) by two strokes and leading nationally-ranked Barton by three shots. But the Trojans shot 319 in the second round to finish third with a 620, three shots behind Abilene Christian. Barton shot a second-round 305 to win the tournament.

Eric Royster was the first-round leader with a two-under-par 70 and finished fourth out of 79 golfers with a 150. Micke Moberg tied for 10th with a 75-80--155, while Marcus Gamme tied for 26th with an 81-80-161.

Chris Bitzenhofer (83-79--162) and Will Williams (75-87--162) finished in a tie for 29th.
