DUDLEY -- Eastern Wayne remained unbeaten on the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference men's tennis scene with a 9-0 decision against county rival Southern Wayne on Friday afternoon.

The Warriors, 6-0 in the league, swept the singles and doubles matches.

Third-seeded Alex Bryant and fourth-seeded Drew Jackson shut out their respective opponents. Ben Ziccardi lost just one game at No. 2 singles, while teammate Lee Ingles dropped just three games at the No. 5 slot.

Drew Ziccardi and Ben Wines each posted a straight-set victory.

Eastern Wayne (6-1) returns to action at home Tuesday against Kinston. The Saints entertain West Craven.

Gators claim

road win

TARBORO -- Spring Creek returned to its winning ways with a 6-0 shutout of Tarboro in their Carolina/Eastern Plains 1-A/2-A match Friday afternoon.

The Gators improved to 3-1 overall and 3-1 in the league.

Cliff Wilson, Ricky Galloway, Daniel Watson, Phat Tran, Justin Smith and Brandon Strickland each prevailed in singles. Wilson and Galloway each lost just two games.

The teams did not play doubles.

Spring Creek returns to action Monday at archrival and unbeaten Rosewood.

Aycock defeats KHS

PIKEVILLE -- Jazzmine Lee and Jasmine Dobbin combined for four hits, including two triples, as Charles B. Aycock cruised past Kinston 5-1 in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference action Friday afternoon.

The Golden Falcons (4-1) remained unbeaten in two conference outings and beat an ECC opponent for the 15th time in 16 tries. They continue play Tuesday afternoon at West Craven.

Lee also drove in two runs Aycock. Brittani Edgerton and Kandace Burroughs each had an RBI.

Senior right-hander Jenny Jackson claimed the pitching win, striking out 13 in a complete-game effort. The Vikings managed just two hits -- singles by Kim Dixon and Danielle Bryant.

Kinston's lone run was unearned.

Panthers upend ND

CALYPSO -- North Johnston pitcher Candace Evans carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning and yielded an unearned run in the seventh in the Panthers' 8-1 conquest of Carolina 1-A opponent North Duplin.

Evans (4-0) finished with 11 strikeouts and three walks in a complete-game performance. The Panthers, the reigning league champions, were playing their conference opener.

The Rebels (4-1, 1-1) suffered their first defeat in five outings.

Hannah Ellis and Robyn Creech paced the Panthers' offense with three hits apiece. Whitney Parrish provided two hits and three RBI.

Brittany Carr had the lone hit for North Duplin.

Kayla Myers recorded three strikeouts in a complete-game effort.

North Duplin entertains Princeton next Tuesday afternoon. North Johnston travels to Farmville Central.

Rebels endure defeat

CALYPSO -- Rallies thwarted on stolen-base attempts and leaving runners stranded in scoring position proved fatal in North Duplin's 3-2 loss against Carolina 1-A foe North Johnston on Friday afternoon.

The Panthers gunned down three runners attempting to take an extra base. And the Rebels, winless in two Carolina contests, couldn't get a timely hit with runners either on second or third.

Matt Braswell, in his fourth appearance of the season, endured the loss. The senior escaped several jams and finished a seven-inning stint with 12 strikeouts.

North Johnston benefited from eight walks and three Rebel defensive miscues. Brad Holloman led the Panthers with two hits in four plate appearances and scored twice. Louis Edwards added a home run.

Sterling Grice turned in a 2-for-2, one-RBI performance for North Duplin.
