MOUNT OLIVE -- Mount Olive College guard Elton Coffield has been named to the 2005 Daktronics All-East Region men's basketball second team announced Tuesday.

Coffield helped lead Mount Olive to a No. 14 national ranking and its second consecutive trip to the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship. The award is voted on by sports information directors in the East Region.

Coffield, a 6-foot-3 guard from Williamston, was named to the All-Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference first team last week and earned All-Tournament honors at last weekend's CVAC Tournament. He ranks 12th in the nation with a 46.3 three-point field goal percentage.

He ranks fifth in the CVAC in scoring with an average of 17.7 points per game. A two-time CVAC Player of the Week, Coffield scored a career-high 31 points in a 119-96 win over Concord (W. Va.), a game in which Mount Olive set a school record for most points in a game.

Coffield has been the Trojans' sixth man this season, having come off the bench in 28 of Mount Olive's 30 games this season. Coffield averaged 21.0 points per contest in the CVAC Tournament, including 22 points in the championship game against Pfeiffer.

Mount Olive is 26-4 and enters the NCAA Division II men's basketball championship as the No. 2 seed in the East Region. The Trojans open first-round play Saturday at 2:30 p.m. against No. 7 seed Millersville (Pa.).

Saturday's winners advance to the semifinals Sunday, with the championship game slated for Tuesday.

The East Regional takes place at Misenheimer.
