MOUNT OLIVE - LaShonda Chiles scored 33 points and nationally fifth-ranked Anderson hit 4-of-4 free throws in the final 8 seconds to extend its winning streak to 16 and hold off Mount Olive 72-67 in Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference women's basketball Saturday at College Hall.

Shenetta Moye scored 19 points for Mount Olive, which placed four players in double figures and cut a six-point deficit down to one with less than 10 seconds left.

Mount Olive (10-14 overall, 8-10 CVAC) played nearly 12 minutes before making its first substitution of the game as the Trojans were tied with Anderson 20-20, the fourth of five ties in the first half. Teneal Boone scored six of Mount Olive's first eight points and her basket with 6:23 remaining gave the Trojans a 25-22 lead.

Anderson (26-2, 17-1) scored six unanswered points and went on to build its biggest lead at 37-31 with 1:35 left before halftime. But Melanie Cobb's basket and Latoria Harvey's 3-point play pulled Mount Olive within one and Shenetta Moye's three-pointer danced around the rim, banked off the glass and went through the net at the buzzer to give Mount Olive a 39-37 lead at the break.

Moye hit her first two 3-point attempts to start the second half as Mount Olive took a 45-41 lead, the Trojans' biggest lead of the game.

But Chiles answered with a three-pointer and Anderson tied the game 50-50 with 12:48 remaining. There were four ties and six lead changes over the next five minutes as Chiles' three-pointer gave Anderson a 59-58 lead.

Harvey answered with a basket to put Mount Olive back on top and Moye hit a pair of free throws to give the Trojans a 62-59 lead with 7:09 remaining. Mount Olive would then go scoreless for more than five minutes as Chiles tied the game with her third three of the night - all in the second half - and hit a basket to put Anderson on top 64-62 with exactly five minutes remaining for the 12th and final lead change of the game.

Chiles' basket with 3:02 completed a 9-0 run and matched Anderson's biggest lead at 68-62. Harvey ended Mount Olive's scoring drought with a basket with 1:54 remaining to cut the lead to four. Mount Olive almost forced a shot clock violation, but Deanna Thompson pulled down an offensive rebound with 45 seconds left in the game after Shemika Reed's desperation three-point attempt grazed the front of the rim after bouncing hard off the glass.

Anderson tried to run the clock down, but a traveling call gave the ball back to Mount Olive. Moye hit a short jumper with 15 seconds left to pull the Trojans within 68-66. Cobb then made a steal at midcourt, resulting in a foot race to the basket. Chiles prevented an almost certain game-tying layup, fouling Cobb with 8.4 seconds left. Cobb missed the first free throw, but hit the second to pull the Trojans within one.

Mount Olive fouled immediately and Stephanie Ponds hit both ends of a 1-and-1 to give Anderson a 70-67 lead. Thompson then stole a length-of-the-court inbounds pass and hit both ends of a 1-and-1 to seal the win for Anderson.

Harvey finished with 17 points and seven rebounds for Mount Olive, while Cobb added 16 points and eight rebounds. Boone posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. After shooting 57.7 percent from the field in the first half, the Trojans finished at 48.1 percent for the game. Moye was 6-for-9 from the field, including 3-for-5 from three-point range.

Ponds finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds for Anderson, while Thompson added 11 points. Chiles was 11-for-28 from the field and 8-for-9 from the free throw line.

Mount Olive is off until Thursday when the Trojans travel to Laurinburg to face St. Andrews in a CVAC matchup. Tip-off is 5:30 p.m.

Anderson plays host to Limestone Monday at 5:30 p.m. in a CVAC contest.
