MOC women fall in OT

GAFFNEY, S.C. - Tiffany Jones scored 16 points and hit a game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer at the end of regulation as Limestone defeated Mount Olive 76-67 in overtime in Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference women's basketball Thursday at Gaffney.

The loss keeps the Trojans in sixth place in the CVAC standings.

Mount Olive (10-13 overall, 8-9 CVAC) led by as many as 10 points in the first half as Latoria Harvey's basket with 10:04 remaining gave the Trojans an 18-8 lead. But Limestone (4-19, 4-13) rallied to tie the game 23-23 with 4:44 remaining after back-to-back 3-pointers by Daniela Vieira capped a 13-4 run. The Trojans went into halftime with a 30-27 lead.

Mount Olive extended its lead to six points, but Limestone rallied to tie the game. There were three ties in the second half before Limestone took its first lead of the game at 45-44. The Saints built the lead to as many as five points, but Teneal Boone's basket with 1:24 remaining tied the game at 56.

Shenetta Moye hit 1-of-2 free throws with 34 seconds left and Melanie Cobb made a steal and drew a foul on Limestone's ensuing possession, putting her on the free throw line with five seconds remaining. Cobb hit both free throws to give the Trojans a 59-56 lead. But Jones hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to tie the game and force overtime.

Molly Williams hit a basket in the first minute of overtime and Limestone led for the remainder of the game. Mount Olive pulled within one point after a pair of free throws by Harvey with 3:30 remaining, but Limestone went on a 6-0 run and the Trojans never got any closer than four points the rest of the way.

Harvey led Mount Olive with a game-high 19 points and 12 rebounds. Cobb finished with 13 points and Moye added 10 points, while Boone pulled down 11 rebounds.

Limestone was 25-for-35 from the free throw line, compared to 15-for-27 for Mount Olive.

Mount Olive returns to action Saturday as the Trojans play host to conference leader and nationally fifth-ranked Anderson in CVAC action. Special tip-off time is 5 p.m. at College Hall.
