Briggs leads WCDS in road win
ROCKY MOUNT - Wayne Country Day's Spenser Briggs scored 17 points as the Chargers defeated Faith Christian of Rocky Mount 75-28 on the road on Thursday.
The win improved the Chargers to 17-6 overall and 6-3 in the Coastal Plains Independent 1-A/2-A Conference heading into their regular season finale at home tonight against Rocky Mount Academy.
Oscar Ball added 12 points for the Chargers, while Alex Proimos and Tavon Waters tallied 11 points each.
Stephen Weeks led Faith-RM with 12 points.

CBA past Pam Pack
PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock's Rob Phillips scored a career-high 24 points as the Golden Falcons defeated Washington 80-76 at home on Senior Night in their regular season finale.
The Falcons (11-13 overall) improved to 7-9 in the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference heading into the conference tourney on Monday. Aycock and Goldsboro finished with identical records in the ECC during the regular season.
Due to the tie-breaker, Goldsboro will take the sixth spot and face Kinston, while the Falcons will take seventh and take on South Central. Both games are at South Central High School in Winterville at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively.
The Falcons finished 4-19 overall last season.
"What an improvement over last year. These kids have really rose to the occasion and improved a lot," Aycock coach David West said. "The new season starts Monday night."
Led by Kalvin Daniels, who finished with 43 points, Washington jumped out to a 27-12 lead after the first period. The Falcons answered in the second period with a 32-16 spurt. Aycock posted another big offensive period in the fourth -- posting 28 points to Washington's 18.
Montrel Sims added 16 points for Aycock, while Brandon Hobbs added 14 and Chris Foreman chipped in 11.
Aycock seniors Michael Gurganus, Greg Gray, Bryan Moore, Greg Davis, Erik Langston, Yuri Howell, along with Hobbs and Sims played in their final regular season home games.

Aycock continues cruising
PIKEVILLE -- Point guard Quaneisha Milner pumped in a game-high 15 points as C.B. Aycock throttled Washington 53-23 in the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference regular-season finale for both teams Thursday evening.
The Golden Falcons (14-8, 12-4 ECC) finished 7-1 in second-half play against ECC opposition and will host a quarterfinal-round game Tuesday at 8 p.m. against West Craven.
"My seniors got a lot of playing time, and really out there and performed well," Aycock coach Gary Hales said. "As a team, we're starting to get on track and are enjoying ourselves out on the court a little bit."
Keyata Pettiford collected 13 points and seven rebounds, while Lela Reid recorded 11 points.
Washington (5-15, 2-14) ended up in the ECC cellar and will travel to Southern Wayne on Saturday for the tournament play-in game. The winner is the guest of regular-season champion and top-seeded Goldsboro High on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
WCDS reaches

ROCKY MOUNT -- Wayne Country Day's Tiara Brody scored a game-best 18 points to help guide the Chargers to a 45-36 win at Faith Christian of Rocky Mount on Thursday.
The win improves WCDS to 12-12 overall and 6-3 in the Coastal Plains Independent 1-A/2-A Conference.
Laura Ziemer scored eight points for the Chargers, while Mimi Bridgers added seven.
WCDS concludes regular season play today --hosting Rocky Mount Academy in its homecoming game.

Kinston claims ECC title
Kinston's Curtis Hines and Eastern Wayne's Lamar Davis shared game-high scoring honors with 28 points each, but the visiting Vikings claimed the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference title with a 98-91 victory Thursday afternoon in New Hope.
Floranta Wynn complemented Davis' effort with 21 points, including a 15 of 18 effort at the free throw line. Teammates Darryl Cowar and Jason O'Neal contributed 17 and 15 points, respectively.
Rashad Wynn emerged Kinston's second-leading scorer with 24 points. Tremaine Miller chipped in 14, while Antonio Whitfield added 12.
The teams combined to shoot 79 free throws. The Warriors shot 35 of 46 at the free throw line, while the Vikings connected on 21 of 33 attempts.

ROCKY MOUNT -- Wayne Country Day's Cameron Strickland scored 19 points as the Chargers rolled to a 72-45 win at Faith Christian of Rocky Mount on Thursday.
Lamar Carpenter and David Wilson added 12 points each for WCDS, which improved to 20-3 overall on the season.
The Chargers host Rocky Mount Academy today in their regular season finale.
CBA concludes
with win
PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock's Brandon Haynes and Dontay Taylor scored nine points each as the Falcons topped Washington 42-37 at home on Thursday.
Aycock (15-7 overall) concluded the season at 11-5 in the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference.
