MOC women look to break slide

MOUNT OLIVE - Four weeks ago tonight, the Mount Olive College women's basketball team posted its first win on Barton's home floor in more than seven years.

Both teams embarked on winning streaks immediately after that game, but now it's the Trojans who need to get back on the winning track.

Mount Olive tries to snap a four-game losing skid as the Trojans play host to Barton in Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference women's basketball tonight at College Hall. Tip-off is 5:30 p.m.

Mount Olive (8-8 overall, 6-4 CVAC) is coming off a 66-63 loss at Queens University of Charlotte, the Trojans' second consecutive loss decided in the final seconds. Queens scored the go-ahead basket with 17 seconds remaining, one game after Mount Olive lost at home to St. Andrews at the buzzer.

Two Trojan players established career-highs at Queens as sophomore forward Melanie Cobb scored 22 points and sophomore guard Anita Rogers hit three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points. Senior forward Latoria Harvey narrowly missed her sixth double-double with nine points and 13 rebounds.

Barton (8-7, 7-3) fell 94-81 at Belmont Abbey on Monday. The Bulldogs had their seven-game winning streak snapped, despite 18 points and 22 rebounds by Keauna Vinson.

Mount Olive, which was in sole possession of first place in the CVAC standings two weeks ago as the lone remaining team unbeaten in conference play, enters tonight's game tied for fourth. Barton is in third place in the standings, one game ahead of Mount Olive.
