HALIFAX -- Adam Wright scored a game-high 21 points to lead four Chargers in double figures as the Wayne Country Day men's basketball team cruised past Halifax Academy 68-26 on Friday night.

Oscar Ball and Spenser Briggs added 12 points each, and Jeff Franklin scored 11 as Wayne Country Day improved to 15-5 overall and 4-2 in Coastal Plains Independent 1-A/2-A play.

Wayne Country Day outscored Halifax (4-10, 0-6) 19-3 in the second quarter to lead 42-12 at halftime.

The Chargers visit Kerr-Vance next Tuesday in conference action.

Dawgs crush

N. Duplin

PRINCETON -- Karter Yutzy scored a game-high 20 points and Brandon Pate added 16, including 10 in the first quarter, as the Princeton men's basketbal2 team remained red-hot, defeating North Duplin 62-23 on Friday night in Class 1-A Carolina Conference play.

The Bulldogs (14-5, 6-3), ranked No. 9 in the latest NCPreps.com 1-A poll, held North Duplin without a field goal for a span lasting 22 minutes.

Princeton now trails both Spring Creek and archrival North Johnston by one game in the loss column in the race for the conference regular-season title.

The Carolina Conference has four NCHSAA playoff berths this season.

Matt Braswell led North Duplin (3-12, 0-9) with 10 points.

"I think (Princeton) is playing well together," Rebels coach Ricky Edwards said. "They just shoot the ball extremely well."

Princeton visits North Johnston next. North Duplin hosts Ayden-Grifton on Tuesday.

Panthers pick up

big win

FARMVILLE -- Led by point guard Jake Lomonaco's 17 points, North Johnston edged Farmville Central 50-45 on Friday night.

The Panthers are now tied atop the Class 1-A Carolina Conference with Spring Creek - both teams owning two loses each.

Willie Pearce added 15 points for North Johnston, which now stands 6-2 in league play and 12-6 overall.

The Panthers play host to archrival Princeton next Tuesday in a critical conference battle.

Eagles soar over Johnston Christian

Antonio Simms led all scorers with 19 points as Wayne Christian defeated Johnston Christian 78-33 on Friday night.

Daniel Chewning had nine points, and Jordan Yelverton and Eric Williams added eight each for the Eagles, who improved to 7-6 overall and 6-3 in conference play.

The two teams are set for a rematch on Tuesday at Harrison Gym in Selma.

JV

WCDS wins 16th straight

HALIFAX -- The Wayne Country Day JV boys won their 16th straight game on Friday night, taking down Halifax academy 73-59.

Cameron Strickland led four Chargers players in double figures with 18 points. Lamar Carpenter recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The Chargers visit Kerr-Vance next Tuesday.

Wayne Christian romps in

conference play

T.A. Brannan torched the nets for 22 points, and Matt Davis and Adam Brannan added 14 each as Wayne Christian (13-1 overall, 9-0 conference) romped over Johnston Christian 67-22 on Friday night.

The teams meet again on Tuesday in Selma.

Ninth grade

Cougars remain unbeaten

JACKSONVILLE -- Goldsboro's A.J. Fowler scored 23 points to lead the Cougars to an 80-68 win over Jacksonville.

T.J. Kornegay added 18 points for the Cougars, while Tavon Murchison added 16 points. Goldsboro (13-0) returns to action on Monday at East Duplin.

Middle schools

Dillard boys 51, Spring Creek 31 -- Demetrio Irby scored 13 points, while Jonathan Williams and Antwan Polk added 12 points each. Dillard completed its regular season.
