Preps -- Sloan, Conquerors ride through Gateway

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Stephen Sloan led three Faith Christian players in double figures with 19 points in a 61-52 conquest of Gateway (Va.) Christian in Mid-Atlantic Christian Athletic Association play.

Sloan drained 7 of 8 free throws for the Conquerors, who raised their ledger to 13-2 overall. They continue play at home Tuesday against Falls Road Baptist of Rocky Mount.

Eric Sladek provided 18 points and T.J. Sasser contributed 12, including six from behind the 3-point arc.

S. Central upends E. Wayne

WINTERVILLE -- Monterrio Haddock led all scorers with 21 points, and three other South Central players reached double figures Friday night in a 76-62 victory against Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference opponent Eastern Wayne.

The Falcons (11-4) remained one-half game behind league-leading Southern Wayne heading into next Tuesday's contest in Dudley. Tip-off is scheduled for approximately 7:30 p.m.

Chris Campbell led Eastern Wayne (5-9, 4-5 ECC) with 20 points. Justin Richardson added 16. Landon Downs had 10 points for the Warriors, who face Washington next Tuesday in New Hope.

Panthers share Carolina lead

KENLY -- Jake Lomonaco pumped in 16 points and helped North Johnston claim a share of the Class 1-A Carolina Conference lead with Spring Creek after its 57-41 victory against Ayden-Grifton.

The Panthers (10-4, 4-1) travel to Seven Springs next Tuesday with first place on the line.

Brandon Sanders complemented Lomonaco's effort with 14 points. Willie Smith provided nine points and eight rebounds.

Jaguars cruise past Bulldogs

FARMVILLE -- Karter Yutzy poured in a game- and team-high 22 points, but Farmville Central claimed the Carolina 1-A Conference encounter 62-50 on Friday evening.

Michael Fowler led the Jaguars (8-4, 3-2) with 16 pooints.

Brandon Date added 14 for Princeton.

The Bulldogs (10-5, 3-2) host archrival Rosewood on Tuesday.

Moore is plenty for NJ

KENLY -- Senior center Helen Moore scored a game-high 25 points Friday night as first-place North Johnston romped over Carolina 1-A Conference foe Ayden-Grifton.

Amanda Pope and Brandi Brinchek added 10 points apiece for North Johnston, which remained unbeaten in five Carolina outings and improved to 10-4 overall.

Keke Pugh led the Chargers (2-13, 1-4) with 10 points.

Falcons hold off Warriors

WINTERVILLE -- Despite getting a game-high 20 points from Sierra King, the Eastern Wayne women's basketball team fell 48-45 at South Central in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play on Friday night.

The Lady Warriors are now 5-9 overall and 4-5 in conference play.

Temia Smith led the Lady Falcons (8-7, 5-3 ECC) with 18 points.

Eastern Wayne plays host to Washington in ECC action next Tuesday.

Zullo twins lead Farmville

FARMVILLE -- Megan Zullo led all scorers with 24 points, and Meghan Vanderhorst added 16 Friday night as Farmville Central defeated Princeton 76-24 in Carolina 1-A Conference play.

Nicole Hargis led the Lady Bulldogs (5-10, 2-3 CC) with 12 points.

The Jaguars, who emerged the N.C. High School Athletic Association state runners-up last season, climbed to 11-2 overall and 4-1 in Carolina Conference play.

Princeton entertains archrival Rosewood next Tuesday.

Faith Christian goes 1-1

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Faith Christian opened the Mid-Atlantic Christian Athletic Association portion of its schedule with a 37-27 loss against Gateway (Va.) Christian on Friday evening.

Natalie Thibeaux and Christie Charles combined for more than two-thirds of the Conquerors' offense. Thibeaux provided 14 points, seven rebounds, six steals and two blocked shots. Charles contributed six points.

Melissa Howell grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked two shots.

Elizabeth Christopher dished out four assists for Faith Christian, which slipped to 4-5 overall.

"We trailed 22-11 at halftime and most of that was turnovers which led to fast-break points," Conquerors coach Eddie Smith said. "In the second half, we played them even and actually outscored them, but we dug too much of a hole."

Earlier in the week, Thibeaux turned in a solid performance as Faith Christian knocked off Berean Christian of Fayetteville 43-25 in a N.C. Christian Schools Association contest. Thibeaux collected a double-double, 12 points and 13 rebounds, to go along with five steals and two blocked shots.

Elizabeth Clarke and Charles scored eight points apiece.

Howell dominated the boards with 11 rebounds and three blocked shots.

The Conquerors evened their NCCSA worksheet at 2-2 and entertain Falls Road Baptist next Tuesday.

Eagles fall to visiting FMA

Visiting Flora MacDonald Academy spoiled Wayne Christian's Homecoming activities with a 67-52, non-conference victory Saturday afternoon at Clifford Gymnasium.

Jennica Botonis paced the host Eagles with 15 points. Teammates Ashley Clark, Brook Norris and Stacie McCary each tallied eight points.

Wayne Christian (7-6) visits Village Christian of Fayetteville for a Carolina Christian 1-A contest next Friday.

Price, Taylor pace C.B. Aycock

PIKEVILLE -- Brandon Price and Dantae Taylor each notched a double-double in C.B. Aycock's 63-47 triumph against county and Eastern Carolina 3-A rival Goldsboro on Friday.

Price turned in a 15-point, 10-rebound effort. Taylor collected 10 points and 10 boards for the Golden Falcons, who stand 6-3 against ECC opposition.

Brandon Haynes provided 15 points.

C.B. Aycock (9-5) is the guest of South Johnston next Tuesday.

Charger boys prevail

Tyler Pate emerged as one of three Wayne Country Day players in double figures with 19 points in Friday's home win against Coastal Plains Independent 1-A/2-A foe Kerr-Vance.

Cameron Strickland and Cameron Byrd each contributed 14 points for the Chargers, who claimed their ninth consecutive win. David Wilson pulled down 12 rebounds.

Wayne Country Day (11-3) visits CPIC member Rocky Mount Academy next Tuesday.

CBA girls take county win

Chantel Gaines sizzled the nets for a game-high 21 points and collected seven steals in C.B. Aycock's 55-25 victory against county rival Goldsboro on Friday.

Yolanda Pitt added a rare double-double, 13 points and 11 steals, for the Golden Falcons.

C.B. Aycock (7-2) travels to South Johnston on Tuesday.

Sullivan, Eagles roll to victory

Brittany Sullivan poured in a game-high 23 points as Wayne Christian dominated Flora MacDonald Academy 47-21 on Saturday afternoon at Clifford Gymnasium.

Jennifer Price and Hannah Kayler added seven points each.

The Eagles (6-1) are the guest of Village Christian of Fayetteville next Friday.

Goldsboro boys hammer CBA

A.J. Holloway tallied a game-high 19 points as unbeaten Goldsboro throttled Charles B. Aycock 81-42 in an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference contest Friday afternoon.

A.J. Fowler added 17 points and T.J. Kornegay contributed 13.

Goldsboro carried a 10-0 record into Saturday morning's home game against Lee Senior.
