CALYPSO -- Karter Yutzy scored a game-high 32 points wednesday night as visiting Princeton downed North Duplin 68-46 in Class 1-A Carolina Conference action.

The Bulldogs outscored the Rebels 23-8 in the first quarter and never let up, improving to 8-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Brandon Pate scored 12 points for Princeton, and Josh Thompson added 11.

Charlton Armwood led North Duplin with 15 points. Doug Lloyd added 10 in the loss.

Princeton hosts archrival North Johnston on Friday night, and the Rebels (3-4, 0-3) visit Ayden-Grifton.

WHITEVILLE -- Wayne Country Day's varsity men's team improved to 10-2 overall on Wednesday night after picking up an 82-42 win at Waccamaw.

The Chargers scored 33 points in the third quarter -- 12 more points than Waccamaw recorded in the entire second half.

Adam Wright led the WCDS attack with 28 points, and Spencer Briggs added 16. Oscar Ball recorded 11 points.

Northwood hands

Eagles a loss

Northwood Temple handed the Wayne Christian men's basketball team a 60-41 home loss -- the Eagles' first setback in Carolina Christian 1-A play this season.

Josh Hurley burned the nets for 30 points to send Wayne Christian to 4-4 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

Daniel Chewning led the Eagles with 21 points, and Antonio Simms added 11.

Wayne Christian continues league action on Friday with a road trip to Raleigh Trinity.

Greene Central

GREENVILLE -- D.H. Conley handed visiting Greene Central a 35-34 loss Wednesday night in the Rams' final tune-up before beginning Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference play Friday at North Pitt.

Charles Gamble led Greene Central (9-4) with nine points.

Princeton

CALYPSO -- Nicole Hargis scored a game-high 22 points, and Stephanie Daughtry had 19 as the visiting Princeton women's basketball team topped North Duplin 59-48 on Wednesday night.

Emily Deibert and Kayla Myers scored seven each for North Duplin, who fell to 1-2 in the Class 1-A Carolina Conference and 3-4 overall.

The Lady Rebels visit Ayden-Grifton on Friday, and Princeton hosts North Johnston.

WCDS tops

Waccamaw

WHITEVILE -- Wayne Country Day's varsity women picked up a 43-37 win over Waccamaw on Wednesday night.

Tiara Brody led all scorers with 12 with teammate Mimi Bridgers adding nine. Laura Zimmer scored eight points for Wayne Country Day (6-7 overall), which travels to county rival Rosewood High on Friday night.

suffers conference loss

The Wayne Christian women's basketball team fell to 5-5 overall and 1-3 in Carolina Christian 1-A Conference Wednesday night, losing 33-24 to Northwood Temple.

Northwood Temple led 11-9 at halftime.

Brook Norris and Stacie McCary led Wayne Christian with seven points each.

The Lady Eagles travel to Raleigh next to face Trinity in another conference matchup.

WHITEVILLE -- The Wayne Country Day JV boys scored an easy 80-24 road win at Waccamaw on Wednesday night.

Travis Davis led all scorers with 20 points, and Cameron Byrd and Lamar Carpenter added 15 each.

WCDS mproved to 6-4 overall.

The Rosewood JV boys' basketball team defeated both Spring Creek (Tuesday) and Hobbton (Wednesday) with Stephen McIntyre leading the chage.

McIntyre had 11 points in Tuesday's 59-48 win over the Gators -- despite 33 points by Spring Creek's David Harris. Clerence Toran led Rosewood with 12 points.

McIntyre had 12 points in Wednesday's 42-38 win over visiting Hobbton, and Dennis Jones added 10.
