LAGRANGE -- The South Lenoir girls' basketball team knew they were a better team than the one that lost to Eastern Wayne, 42-40, in the first round of The Free Press Holiday Invitational on Wednesday.
In Thursday's 59-33 whipping of Spring Creek in the third-place game of the Invitational at North Lenoir High School, the Blue Devils showed exactly how good they really can be.
South Lenoir (5-4) jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back as the Blue Devils rolled to the win.
The Devils put on an impressive inside-outside offensive clinic with 6-foot 4-inch sophomore center Kendra Pryor and senior point forward Nicole Corn. The pair had 15 points each, with Corn burying three, 3-pointers and Pryor dominating the paint.
Corn, who injured her back during volleyball season, didn't sleep Wednesday night because of the intense pain. But she shook off the pain Thursday to lead the Devils to the victory.
The Gators (2-9) were led by Troia Morgan's 13 points and Brittany Billups' 10.

The Warriors (4-6) overcame 13 3-pointers from the Gators (7-3) to take third-place in the Invitational.
The Warriors' Chris Campbell led all scorers with 24 points, while teammate Justin Richardson added 19.
Spring Creek, which shot 13-for-27 (48.1 percent) from behind the 3-point line, but only 8-for-30 (26.7 percent) in front of it, was led by Josh Bishop with 20 points. Dalreese Bell and Chris Wright had 14 points each for the Gators.

Saints bounce back
JACKSONVILLE -- Southern Wayne's Justin Bellamy recorded a season-high 17 points as the Saints defeated Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference foe West Craven 88-61 in their final game at the White Oak Christmas Tournament.
Southern Wayne exited 1-2 in tourney play and is now 7-5 overall.
Antonio Davis added 16 points for the Saints, while Delawn Armwood and Akeem Royal chipped in 10 points each.
The Saints travel to New Hope to face Eastern Wayne on Tuesday.

ROBERSONVILLE -- Princeton's Karter Yutzy tallied a double-double with 31 points and 10 rebounds as the Bulldogs defeated Creswell in the consolation game of the Roanoke Christmas Tournament on Thursday.
Yutzy was named to the all-tournament team.
Brandon Pate added 13 points and seven rebounds for the Bulldogs (7-4), who return to action on Wednesday at North Duplin.
