Pender edges Saints

JACKSONVILLE -- Southern Wayne's Akeem Royal and Antonio Davis scored 16 points each as the Saints fell 59-56 to Pender at the White Oak Christmas Tournament on Wednesday afternoon.

For the second game in a row, Southern Wayne (6-5) squandered a second-half lead, according to head coach Mike Connelly.

"We turned it over too much at the end of the game," Connelly said. "We've got to do better at taking care of the basketball."

No further information was available on Wednesday's game.

The Saints continue play in the tournament at 3 p.m. today against West Craven.

Princeton struggles

at Roanoke tourney

ROBERSONVILLE -- Princeton's Karter Yutzy dropped in 12 points as the Bulldogs fell 56-30 against Warren County on Wednesday in the Roanoke Holiday Tournament.

The loss sends Princeton into the 5:30 p.m., consolation game against Creswell today.

The Bulldogs fell to 6-4 overall.

Rams fall

to Hunt

WILSON -- Greene Central's Teddie Waters scored 20 points as the Rams fell 67-63 in overtime to Wilson Hunt on Tuesday in the Wilson Daily Times Classic at Hunt's gymnasium.

Charles Gamble added 16 points for the Rams, while Junior Kesselbach added 10.

Greene Central (8-3) will face either Wilson Beddingfield or Wilson Fike on Thursday at 5 p.m.
