Faith Christian girls pick up NCCSA win

Faith Christian found some offensive punch in the third quarter and dealt Trinity Christian-Greenville a 32-18 loss in N.C. Christian Schools Association play Friday evening.

The Conquerors entered halftime tied at 11-11, but outscored the visitors 13-3 in the third quarter.

Christina Charles emerged the top scorer with a game-high 14 points to go along with six steals and three assists. Elizabeth Clarke provided eight points, 10 rebounds and six steals.

Elizabeth Christopher dished out six assists. Melissa Howell added 10 rebounds, three steals and three blocked shots. Channing Mills helped Howell on the boards with nine rebounds.

Charles pumped in a team-high 22 points and collected nine steals in a 55-40 loss at Mt. Calvary of Hookerton. Christopher played a solid floor game with eight points, six steals and five assists.

Mills and Howell combined for 18 rebounds, while Howell blocked four shots. Clarke handed out seven assists.

Faith Christian (3-3, 3-1 NCCSA) is scheduled to entertain Calvary Christian on Jan. 4. However, head coach Eddie Smith said that game might be postponed.

Games postponed

Sunday evening's late snowfall left some icy roads and forced the postponement of two area contests.

East Duplin's boys were scheduled to play at North Lenoir this evening. That game has not been rescheduled.

Spring Creek canceled its trip to South Lenoir and athletics director Roy Whitfield said the schools agreed to play the game in January.

Rebel girls fall on road

LAKEWOOD -- Lakewood forced a whopping 32 turnovers and limited North Duplin to single-digit scoring in each quarter en route to a 42-26, non-conference victory Friday evening.

The Leopards led 20-12 at halftime, but broke open the game with a 12-0 run in the third quarter.

North Duplin (3-3) missed the front end of seven one-and-one opportunities at the free throw line. The Rebels finished 8 of 17 overall.

Sierra Ward paced North Duplin with 19 points.

The Rebels take two weeks off for the Christmas holidays and return to action at home Jan. 5 against Class 1-A Carolina Conference rival Princeton.

Trio leads Spring Creek

NEWTON GROVE -- Josh Bishop and Mychael King sizzled the nets for 24 points apiece as Spring Creek knocked off Hobbton 85-71 in non-conference play Friday evening.

Bishop dished out 10 assists, picked the Wildcats' pockets for four steals and grabbed six rebounds. Wright handed out a game-high 11 assists to go along with two steals and six rebounds.

Chris Wright added 20 for the Gators, who climbed to 7-1 overall.

Spring Creek converted 33 field goals on 60 attempts, including 10 of 26 from 3-point range.

Charger boys clip Eagles

Cameron Strickland poured in a game-high 23 points and Tyler Pate turned in a career-best effort off the bench in Wayne Country Day's 66-58, non-conference victory against Rosewood.

Pate buried four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points for the Chargers, who climbed to 4-3 overall.

Travis Davis added 16 points and seven assists.

Kameran Byrd snagged a team-leading 12 rebounds.

Wayne Country Day begins a three-game road swing Jan. 5 at Waccamaw Academy. The Chargers get a return match Jan. 7 at Rosewood and continue their road series Jan. 10 at Trinity Christian-Fayetteville.
