MOC men head to UNCP today

MOUNT OLIVE -- After opening the season with six games in two weeks, the Mount Olive College men's basketball team plays its first game 11 days as the Trojans travel to UNC Pembroke tonight for a non-conference match-up.

Tip-off is 7 p.m.

Mount Olive (5-1) is playing for the first time since Dec.r 4 when the Trojans defeated Erskine 68-60 in their NCAA Division II Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference opener. Sophomore guard Elton Coffield, who is averaging 20.7 points per game, scored a game-high 23 points for the Trojans, which saw a 27-point lead sliced to five points in the final minute.

Mount Olive is 5-0 this season when Coffield is the team's high scorer.

Also averaging in double figures for the Trojans are junior guards Melvin Creddle (12.3 points per game) and Maurice Horton (12.0 ppg).

Coffield, Creddle and Horton are all shooting at least 54.0 percent from the field. Senior center Sharome Holloway and sophomore forward Chris Bartley are just on the verge of double figures, averaging more than 9.0 points per game. Holloway leads the team with 8.2 rebounds per game, including a 12-rebound performance against Erskine.

The Trojans are averaging 95.2 points per game this season and have already reached the 100-point mark three times, including a school-record 119 points against Concord (W. Va.) College on Dec. 1.

Mount Olive won last year's meeting against UNC Pembroke 107-63 at College Hall.
