WINTERVILLE -- Goldsboro's Ashelyn James scored 13 points as the Cougars extended their Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference winning streak to 21 games with a 37-25 win at South Central on Monday.

Chevoya Jackson chipped in 11 points for the Cougars (6-2, 5-0 ECC), while teammate Jessica Faison added nine.

The Cougars host Eastern Wayne on Friday.

Aycock wins second straight

VANCEBORO -- Charles B. Aycock's Quaneisha Milner dropped in 12 points as the Falcons claimed their second-straight, Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference win with a 49-48 victory at West Craven on Monday.

With 11.7 seconds left, Aycock's Keyata Pettiford made one-of-two at the free-throw line to put her team up by the final margin.

The Falcons (3-6, 2-2 ECC) got 10 points from Lela Reid, who missed the last two games with an injury

Joyce Freeman poured in 25 points for the Eagles.

Aycock hosts West Carteret on Friday.

Saints struggle on road

MOREHEAD CITY -- Southern Wayne's Ebony Darden scored 11 points as the Saints suffered a 59-40 loss at West Carteret on Monday.

The loss drops the Saints (3-5 overall) to 2-2 in the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference heading into Friday's game at home with Washington.

Shelonda Smith added seven points for the Saints.

Eagles split at Wilson Tournament

Wayne Christian's girls basketball team played in the Wilson Charger Christmas Tournament this past weekend along with Wilson, Faith of Rocky Mount and Fayetteville Christian.

Wayne Christian fell to Wilson Christian 58-29 in the opening round as Stacie McCary, Jennica Botonis and Ashley Clark were the only scorers for the Eagles with 14, nine and six points respectively.

On Saturday morning, Wayne Christian faced Fayetteville Christian and outscored its opponent 19-4 in the fourth period to win 46-45 in dramatic fashion. Stacie McCary, an all-tournament player, led the attack with 12 of her 15 points coming in the fourth.

The Eagles (5-4) take the next two weeks off for semester exams and the holidays before playing host to Northwood Temple of Fayetteville on Jan. 4.

Lakewood cruises past Rebels

CALYPSO -- North Duplin's Sierra Ward scored 14 points, but it was not nearly enough in the Rebels' 81-26 home loss to Lakewood on Monday.

Demitriaus Moore paced four Leopard players in double-figures with 20 points.

North Duplin fell to 3-2 overall and will travel to Lakewood on Friday.

Goldsboro's Dawnee Tate scored 12 points, while Danielle Irby added 10 in a 47-29 win over South Central at home on Monday.

The win improves the Cougars to 2-4 overall and 2-2 in the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference heading into Friday's game at Eastern Wayne.

Grantham 34, Spring Creek 25 -- Christina Williams led Grantham with 11 points. Maura Phipps paced Spring Creek with 12 points. Grantham (1-5) hosts Mount Olive on Wednesday.
