KENLY -- Manny Banks earned North Johnston's first-ever victory on the mat and first-ever pin in a season-opening, 31-30 loss to Durham School of the Arts on Friday.
Banks, who competed at 215 pounds, needed one minute and three seconds to pin the Bulldogs' Randy Carter.
The Panthers earned 24 points on forfeits and Banks' fall helped forge a 30-30 tie. However, Durham School of the Arts earned one point on the criteria of having more pins in the match.
It was the Class 1-A Carolina/Tar-Roanoke Conference opener for both schools.
North Johnston claimed its first-ever team victory with a 48-17 decision against Louisburg.
Brandon Oliver (125 pounds), Tyler Creech (135), Richard Jackson (171), Tony Cooper (189) and Dutch Oliver (215) each pinned their respective opponent. Teammates Justin Paul (112) and Chris Lesarsky (152) each collected a forfeit, while 160-pounder Pierre Dickerson claimed a 13-7 decision against Magnum Boone.
The Panthers (1-1, 1-1 C/T-RC) return to action next Thursday at county rival West Johnston. Match time is 6:30 p.m.
