Charger boys take first loss of season
SMITHFIELD -- Wayne Country Day's Spenser Briggs scored 11 points in a tough, 40-37 loss at Smithfield-Selma on Wednesday.
The Spartans shot 12-for-13 from the free-throw line on the game, including six-of-six in the fourth quarter. The Chargers managed just three-of-nine from the stripe. Neither team ever had more than four-point lead.
Kevin Logan and Phillip Weeks added nine points for Wayne Country Day, while Adam Wright chipped in eight.
The Chargers (3-1) travel to undefeated Parrott Academy in Kinston today.

Rosewood balanced at Midway
SPIVEYS CORNER -- Rosewood's Danny Langston led four players in double-digit scoring with 18 points in a 61-57 win at Midway on Thursday.
Kyle Bunn added 15 points for the Eagles, while Antell Richards and Kyle Grey dropped in 12 points each as Rosewood dropped the Raiders for the second time this week.
Midway's Shawn Bateman led all scorers with 21 points.
Rosewood entertains Lakewood tonight.

Bulldogs fall on road
LOUISBURG -- Princeton's Karter Yutzy scored 15 points as the Bulldogs fell at Louisburg 51-34 on Thursday.
Brandon Pate added seven points for Princeton (3-2), who led the game at 18-11 in the second quarter.
Louisburg's Bobby Massenburg led all scorers with 23 points.
The Bulldogs travel to Ayden-Grifton on Wednesday.

SPIVEYS CORNER -- Rosewood's Taylor Allen dropped in 10 points to help guide the Eagles to a 54-38 win at Midway on Thursday.
Devon Bennett added eight points for Rosewood (2-0), while Clarence Toran and Josh Myers has seven points each.
The Eagles host Lakewood today.
