WINTERVILLE -- First-year wrestler Shaun Leftdridge earned an important pinfall at 130 pounds and helped Eastern Wayne ease past South Central 42-30 in a Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference wrestling match Tuesday evening.
Leftdridge put Alaric Rouse on his back late in the second period and recorded the fall with 18 seconds on the clock.
"That was a big deal ... could have been the difference in the match," veteran Warriors coach Mike Brown said.
Junior Joey Burridge returned to the mat after a one-week absence and collected a 30-second pinfall against Alex Bridgeman at 140 pounds. Teammates Timmy Brown (145), Travis Turner (171) and David Brown (189) also recorded pins as Eastern Wayne prevailed in its ECC opener.
Freshman Chris Tesar (103) and Josh Stevens (125) each received a forfeit.
The Warriors (2-1, 1-0 ECC) return to action Saturday in the 11th annual Pierce-Davis Memorial Tournament at SouthWest Edgecombe. First-round matches are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
