SPIVEY'S CORNER -- Spring Creek scored points aplenty in an 82-47 win over non-conference foe Midway on Tuesday.

The Gators (1-1) led 34-20 at half and added 28 third-quarter points to swamp the Raiders. Josh Bishop led the scoring with 23 points, with double-figure efforts from Cliff Wilson (17), Chris Wright (12) and Mychael King, who had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Bishop had seven assists, while Wright had five. Wilson and Wright both had six rebounds. Bishop and Wilson both had three 3-pointers to pace Spring Creek, who takes on Class 1-A Carolina Conference foe Princeton on Monday.

at Family Y swim meet

Eastern Wayne's girls took first place and Southern Wayne's boys finished second at a six-team swim meet held Tuesday at the Goldsboro Family Y pool.

The Warrior girls piled up 98 points, 36 points ahead of runner-up South Brunswick. Charles B. Aycock was fourth, followed by Kinston and Southern Wayne.

Eastern Wayne's relay teams did well, with the 200 medley relay team posting a regional-qualifying time of 2:09.88. The swimmers were Hina New, Denise Moulas, Rachael Stoneburner and Ashley Robinson. Stoneburner, New and Robinson teamed with Regan Stoneburner to post a 4:25.21 in the 400 freestyle relay, also a regional qualifying time. Charles B. Aycock's 200 free relay team was second and posted a regional qualifying time of 2:06.00, good enough for second place behind South Brunswick. Eastern Wayne was third with a 2:11.03 time.

Robinson took a pair of individual wins, in the 200 individual medley (2:21.48) and the 500 freestyle (5:37.09), both in regional qualifying times. New also took pair of firsts, in the 100 butterfly (1:13.76) and the 100 backstroke (1:13.43), with both times qualifying for regionals.

Rachael Stoneburner took a first place in the 200 free (2:28.56) and a second in the 500 free (6:44.14), with both times qualifying for regionals. Moulas won the 100 breaststroke (1:24.94) and qualified for regionals, and took second in the 200 individual medley (2:54.63).

Garrett Forrest of Charles B. Aycock won the 50 meter free in 26.54 and the 100 free in 58.40, and both times earned Forrest a regional spot.

For the boys, Fike easily won the meet with 133 points. The Saints had 56 points to take second, while Charles B. Aycock was fourth and Eastern Wayne sixth.

Southern Wayne's 200 medley relay team (2:12.65), 400 free relay team (4:30.96) and the 200 free relay team (1:52.49) earned second-place finishes. Aycock's 400 free relay team (4:50.28) was third.

Eastern Wayne's Rob Cagel was second in the 50 meter free (55,28) and qualified for regionals and was third in the 100 free (1:00.45). Andrew Wice of Southern Wayne was third in the 100 breaststroke (1:27.37) and teammates Justin Whaley was third in the 200 individual medley (3:06.62).

Goldsboro's Family Y pool will host a meet with all Wayne County Schools teams on Nov. 30.

SJAFB youth basketball

Registration for youth basketball at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base will be held from through Dec. 3 from 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. at the Youth Center, Building 4103, at 1035 Langley Avenue. Participation is limited to the dependents of active duty military, DOD civilian employees, and military or civilian retirees. Practice begins Dec. 13 and the league runs from Jan. 24 until March 18. Leagues will consist of Pee Wee (ages 6-8), Bantam (ages 9-10), Midget (ages 11-12), and Junior (ages 13-15) and ages will be determined as of March 30, 2005. Girls basketball teams will be offered if there is enough participants, but if not all teams will be co-ed. League age is subject to change depending on the number of players signing up in each league. Games will be played at the Seymour Johnson Youth Center, the Wayne County Boys and Girls Club and the Goldsboro Family YMCA. Carolina Screamers fastpitch softball

A new traveling, fastpitch softball team based out of Princeton is being formed in the 14-under age group. The team will begin play in the Spring of 2005. Anyone interested may call Dale Wood at (919) 965-5014 for more information.

Boys and Girls Club youth basketball

The Wayne County Boys and Girls Club will hold registration for youth basketball through Dec. 17 at the Boys and Girls Club building on Royal Avenue. For more information call Jeff Barnes at 735-2358.

Dart league

The Goldsboro Dart League, a steel-tip dart league, is forming to start play January 10. League games will be Monday nights at 7 p.m. Form your own three-person team and sign up. The league is non-profit and has no affiliations.
