MOC's Busch selected

to region all-tournament team

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- Mount Olive College outside hitter Heidi Busch was named to the all-tournament team at the Atlantic Regional of the 2004 NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Championships.

Busch recorded 16 kills and three aces in the Trojans' first-round match against Indiana (Pa.) Thursday afternoon.

Mount Olive (24-13) earned its first-ever berth to the NCAA Tournament and entered as the No. 6 seed in the Atlantic Regional. The Trojans fell to third-seeded Indiana 30-28, 30-20, 30-25. Top-seeded and tournament host Lock Haven won the regional and advanced to the national finals.

Busch, a 5-11 junior from Fort Wayne, Ind., ranks third in the nation in kills per game with a 5.56 average. She was an all-Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference first-team selection for the third consecutive year and became the first player in CVAC history to be named CVAC volleyball player of the week four times in the same season.

Busch has reached double figures in kills in 38 consecutive starts.

Hawg Breath Bass Club

The Hawg Breath Bass Club held its November tournament on Saturday on the Neuse/Trent Rivers.

Doug Vaughn took home the win and also captured big fish honors. Second place went to Brian Millhorn and Donnie Lloyd, while Mike Norwood and John Walsh finished third.

Corrections

Wayne Country Day School's JV girls score was wrong in Friday's paper. The score should have been 14-4 over Oakwood. We regret the error.

Goldsboro Middle School's Zeara McDuffie had 10 points in Thursday's win over Grantham. Her name was left out of the game story in Friday's paper. We regret the omission.
