RALEIGH -- Goldsboro's Tim Kornegay poured in 23 points in his first varsity game as the Cougars claimed an 83-79, season-opening overtime win at Southeast Raleigh on Thursday.

The Bulldogs' Renwick Pridgen banked in a three-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime. The Cougars, a team with just two seniors, outscored Southeast 8-4 in the overtime period to claim the win.

Deonta Anderson added 15 points for Goldsboro (1-0), while Daquan Joyner provided 14 points and Tavon Waters contributed 12. Goldsboro shot 57 free-throws and made 31.

Reggie Jones paced the Bulldogs with 16 points. Josh Ellerby added 15 points.

The Cougars and Southeast battle again on Oct. 29 at the Cougar Den.

Aycock rebounds

WILSON -- Charles B. Aycock's Santavin Poole scored 21 points and three blocks to help boost the Golden Falcons past Wilson Beddingfield 67-53 on Wednesday at the Bruins' gymnasium.

The win improved Aycock to 1-1 on the season as it bounced back off of a season-opening loss to Greene Central on Tuesday.

Montrel Sims added 15 points and eight rebounds for the Falcons, who travel to Snow Hill to face Greene Central on Monday. Brandon Hobbs dished out six assists for Aycock, which had just eight turnovers on the game.

The Bruins' Shonte Finch posted 16 points, while Mike Anderson added 15 points.

LITTLEFIELD -- Greene Central's Teddie Waters scored 18 points and grabbed six rebounds as the Rams topped Ayden-Grifton 56-44 on the road on Wednesday.

Junior Kesselbach dropped in 11 points, while Jonathan Gage added nine points and six rebounds for the Rams (2-0).

Ayden-Grifton's Robbie Phillips contributed 16 points to lead the Chargers.

The Rams (2-0) host Charles B. Aycock on Monday.

Camille Early added 11 points for Goldsboro (0-1).

RALEIGH -- Goldsboro's Anthony Artis dropped in 26 points and dished out nine assists to help lead the Cougars to an 81-77 win in overtime at Southeast Raleigh.

Treme Boone scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Cougars (1-0), while Dana Thomas added nine points and seven rebounds.

Goldsboro hosts Southeast Raleigh on Thursday.
