CAMP LEJEUNE -- Rosewood's Goss Kendall scored the Eagles' lone goal on Wednesday as Lejeune handed Rosewood a 4-1 loss in the third round of the Class 1-A N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs.

The Eagles, the third seed from the Carolina Super-Six Conference, closed the season at 13-11-1 overall after making their longest run into the playoffs in soccer in school history.

"We're proud. The guys should be proud also," Rosewood coach Daniel Mitchell said. "Making it to the third round is a big deal. We were excited with the way we finished the season up."

Rosewood trailed just 1-0 at halftime to the Coastal Plains Conference champ, yielding only a goal on a penalty kick by Steven Thomas with eight minutes left in the half.

"We played decent on the defensive end. We really limited their shots, but we couldn't get anything going offensively," Mitchell said.

In the second half, Thomas scored twice more to finish off the hat trick (three goals), before Lejeune's Daniel Bradley put his team up 4-0 at the 22-minute mark.

Kendall's goal came two minutes later to put Rosewood within three.

"We continued to battle and play hard. They went up 4-0 before we really put pressure on them," Mitchell said. "Hopefully, this is something we are going to build on. We are losing a good group of seniors and hopefully the experience the younger guys got will help them down the road also."

Brandon Hietpas, Antell Richards, Tyler Daniels, Joey Churchwell, Matt Howell, Kenton Lowe and Justin Demello all played in their final game for the purple and gold.
