Men's Basketball Falls To UNC Wilmington 62-46 I

WILMINGTON -- Sharome Holloway recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, but it wasn't enough as Mount Olive fell to Division I UNC Wilmington 62-46 in a men's basketball exhibition game Saturday at Wilmington. Victor Young added 12 points and six rebounds for the Trojans.

Mount Olive jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two free throws by Melvin Creddle and a three-pointer by Young, but UNCW answered with a 14-2 run and went on to take a 24-15 lead at halftime. The Trojans went 4-for-24 (16.7 percent) from the field in the first half. UNCW scored the first eight points of the second half and the Trojans never got any closer than 14 points the rest of the way.

Mount Olive plays another exhibition game against a Division I school Friday as the Trojans travel to Chapel Hill to take on North Carolina.

The Tar Heels are picked by ESPN analyst Dick Vitale to win the Division I national championship. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m. at the Dean Dome.

Trojan runners fare well at regionals

WINGATE -- Eastern Wayne High School graduate and Mount Olive College junior Tim Insley placed 34th out of 128 runners in the men's division at the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Cross Country Meet Saturday at Wingate. Insley ran the 10K course in a time of 35:17.

Christof Franzsen placed 106th (39:13) and Kris Exum finished 124th (42:31).

In the women's division, Spring Creek High School grad Tamika Goff placed 88th out of 105 runners with a time of 29:01 in the 6K. Becky Garrod finished 93rd with a time of 29:42.
