Cross-Country state tourney

WINSTON-SALEM --Top runners and teams from across the state will gather at Tanglewood Park on Saturday for the 49th annual North Carolina High School Athletic Association's cross country championships.
The Tanglewood course is hosting the NCHSAA championships for the third consecutive year.
McAlpine Greenway in Charlotte was the home of the finals from 1980 through 2001, and for many years before that (1956-77) Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill was the site of the state championships. The finals were run twice at Campbell University in Buies Creek, in 1978 and '79.
The 3-A men's race will start this year's championship action at ten o'clock Saturday morning, followed by the 4-A men at 10:30. The 3-A women's competition is scheduled for 11 a.m., with the 4-A women at 11:30.
After a break for awards presentations, the competition will resume at 2 p.m. with the 1-A men, followed at 2:30 by the 2-A men. Then the 1-A women will run at 3 p.m. and the 2-A women at 3:30 p.m.

Eagles conclude running season
CARY -- Wayne Christian finished its first cross country season at the state meet at the SAS Soccer Park Friday.
Doug Johnson finished 18th in the 44-person boys field, clocking a 20:15. Jon Massey (23:05) was 37th and John Potts (23:09) 38th.
In the girls meet, Carrie McCall was third in a time of 22:27. Jennifer Price (22:50) was fifth, followed by Logan Dawson (24th,25:35), Shelle Anderson (41st, 30:56) and Martha Summerlin (44th, 34:28).
