Eastern Wayne 20

Charles B. Aycock clinched a share of the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference title -- its second in four years -- with a victory against Eastern Wayne at Little Big Horn.

Quarterback Thomas Pilkington accounted for more than 200 yards total offense as the Golden Falcons remained perfect in seven ECC outings. They conclude the regular season at home next Thursday against Washington.

Pilkington completed 11 of 21 passes for 170 yards and touchdown strikes to Daniel Pennington (29 yards) and Erik Taylor (13 yards). Pilkington, who had 37 yards rushing, added a five-yard touchdown run in the fourth period.

Joseph Toler collected the game's first touchdown -- a seven-yard rush in the second quarter. Toler emerged Aycock's top rusher with 56 yards on 15 totes.

Timothy Alston returned a fumble 48 yards for a touchdown in the final period.

Defensively, Travis Milligan recorded 11 tackles for the Golden Falcons. Jarrett Covar contributed 10 stops. William Yelverton and Fred McClain each had nine stops.

Dwight Ulmer led the Warriors with 75 yards rushing and a touchdown on seven carries. Backfield mate Andrew Blevins provided 62 yards on 18 carries.

Eric Brofft and Anthony O'tellio combined for 121 yards passing on 3 of 7 attempts. Brofft threw a 45-yard touchdown pass to Ulmer, while O'tellio hooked up with Alvino Daniels for a 40-yard score.

Nolan Lancaster paced the Eastern Wayne defense with six tackles. Darius Canadi and Thomas Smith combined for 10 tackles and one sack. Tim Warren also added a sack.

Eastern Wayne (1-8) fell to 0-7 in the conference heading into next week's regular-season finale against Kinston.

Goldsboro High 20

Anthony Council rushed for 184 yards and collected three touchdowns as the Saints remained in contention for a share of the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference championship.

Council broke loose for touchdown runs of three and 12 yards, and snagged a seven-yard scoring pass from Michael Holland. Backfield mates Joseph Legg and Emanuel Hinton combined for 58 yards on the ground.

Holland finished with 42 yards passing and added a one-yard touchdown run.

Michael Allen led the Southern Wayne defense with 14 tackles. Legg recorded nine tackles and picked off a Cougar pass. Dekevius Williams and Antwan Chestnutt each sacked the Goldsboro quarterback twice.

"John Kendall, Andrea Williams and Jeremy Hargrove all played well on the defensive line," Saints coach Trae McKee said.

Southern Wayne raced to a 15-0 lead, but Goldsboro answered with three consecutive scores.

Tim Kornegay threw a 14-yard pass to Brandon Davis and scampered 34 yards for a touchdown. Davis hauled in a three-yard touchdown pass from Kornegay with less than a minute remaining before halftime.

Goldsboro led 20-15 at intermission, but the Saints came back with two third-quarter touchdowns. Neither team scored again.

Southern Wayne (7-2, 6-1 ECC) entertains West Craven in the regular-season finale for both teams next Thursday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Doyle Whitfield Athletic Complex.

Goldsboro concluded its season 7-3 and 6-2 in the ECC.

Tarboro High 12

SNOW HILL -- Greene Central's Brian Thigpen, Tyshaun Jones and William Price spearheaded a defense that forced three turnovers in an Eastern Plains 2-A Conference win at the James R. Fulghum Athletic Complex.

Thigpen returned an interception 64 yards for a touchdown. Jones and Price each recovered a fumble for the Rams, who improved to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in the EPC.

William Price emerged the offensive leader with three touchdowns on runs of 2, 31 and 36 yards. He also returned a kickoff 73 yards for another touchdown.

Quarterback Kelsey Baker completed 2 of 7 passes for 64 yards.

The Rams conclude the regular season next Friday at South Lenoir. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
