Walters, Williams run strong at Carolina Conference meet
FARMVILLE -- Spring Creek's Eric Walters ended up third and Rosewood's Terrance Williams claimed ninth place in a Class 1-A Carolina Conference meet Wednesday afternoon at Farmville Central.
Walters completed the 3.1-mile course in 17 minutes, 50 seconds -- nearly one minute behind meet winner C.J. Eason of Farmville Central. Williams finished more than a minute behind Walters.
The Jaguars collected 34 points, compared to 68 for runner-up North Duplin. Spring Creek and North Johnston tied for third with 71 points apiece, while Princeton finished fifth overall at 112.
Clint Bland emerged the Rebels' top runner with a seventh-place effort of 18:43.
Matt Peaden and Alan Rodriguez finished fifth and sixth, respectively, for the Panthers.
Chris Langdon turned in a 12th-place time for Princeton.
North Johnston's Elizabeth Baker recorded a meet-winning time of 20:26 -- eight seconds faster than county rival Heather Braswell of Princeton. The Panthers and Bulldogs combined to take the top five spots in the meet, which North Johnston won 26-31.
Rosewood's Emily Thronson finished sixth overall in 22:28.
Amy Hicks led North Duplin with a 19th-place time of 27:03.
S. Lenoir sweeps
EPC Championships
DEEP RUN -- South Lenoir prevailed in the season-ending Eastern Plains 2-A Conference championship meet contested Wednesday afternoon.
The Blue Devils edged Greene Central 37-38 for the boys' title, and easily deefeated the Rams 29-50 on the girls' side.
South Lenoir's Coleman Heath emerged the top boys' runner with a time of 17 minutes, 29 seconds. Greene Central's Lance Murray finished fourth, followed by teammates Tony Tyson and Dale Hines.
Jess King led the Blue Devil girls with a meet-winning run of 21:09.
Blair Carraway and Ashley Oakes finished fourth and fifth, respectively, for the Rams.
All four teams return to action Oct. 30 in the N.C. High School Athletic Association eastern regionals at Currituck.
