Eastern Wayne's Andrew Corley and Jin Lee posted a hat trick (three goals) each as the Warriors cruised past Southern Wayne 9-2 in a Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference contest on Wednesday at the Little Big Horn.

Eastern Wayne's Eric Bourgeois and Josh Turner also had one goal each for the Warriors. Corley posted two assists, while Bobby Gambella dished out one assist.

Southern Wayne's Matt Graham evened the game at 1-1 at the 15-minute mark after the Saints allowed an on-goal eight minutes into the match.

Eastern Wayne (12-4, 9-2 ECC), who outshot Southern Wayne 29-5, went on to score seven unanswered goals to pull away.

Southern Wayne's Mario Segura converted a penalty kick at the 63-minute mark.

Warrior goalie Steven Gourley had three saves, while Saint goalie Casey Best had three saves.

Eastern Wayne, nursing a handful of key injuries, has a week off before traveling to Charles B. Aycock in its regular season finale on Oct. 27.

"All in all, we were a little like the walking wounded. We moved David Hook to anchor our defense tonight and Steven Gourley to start the match in goal," Eastern Wayne coach Jorg Wagner said. "Both had solid showings and Gourley made a few very nice saves.

"We will need the week off to heal up a little and hopefully bring our strongest 11 to the match at CBA."

Panthers strong

in second half again

KENLY -- North Johnston's Raul Farfan and Jake Lomonaco scored two goals each to help lift the Panthers to a 6-1 win at home over Ayden-Grifton on Wednesday.

The Panthers led just 1-0 at halftime, and the Chargers' Justin Stepps tied the match at 1-1 early in the second half.

For the second-straight game, North Johnston rallied for a big second half -- posting five unanswered goals to run away with the Class 1-A Carolina/Super Six Conference tilt.

With the win, the Panthers (16-3-2 overall) improved to 8-1-1 in conference play heading into Monday's match at home against Spring Creek. Ayden Grifton (0-17 overall) fell to 0-10 against conference foes.

Corey Narron and Ashley Moore also scored for the Panthers, while Farfan had two assists with Alan Rodriguez and Moore adding one assist each.

Lomonaco now has 39 goals on the season, as Farfan has 14 goals and 16 assists.

Jay Pittman and Josh Cooper combined for two saves in the goal for North Johnston. Ayden-Grifton goalie Trey Baggett grabbed 15 saves, including 10 in a strong first-half performance.

Eagles emerge

in overtime

NEWTON GROVE -- Rosewood's Joey Churchwell scored two goals, including the game-winner in the second half of overtime as the Eagles worked past Hobbton 2-1 on Wednesday.

Churchwell, who now has a team-leading 15 goals on the season, scored both goals on assists from Kyle Bunn.

The win improves the Eagles (10-9-1 overall) to 7-3 in the Class 1-A Carolina/Super Six Conference heading into Monday's match at conference leader James Kenan.

Hobbton led 1-0 at halftime, as Xavier Nunez scored in the 12th minute for the Wildcats.

Tigers still perfect

in conference play

FARMVILLE -- James Kenan remained unbeaten in the Class 1-A Carolina/Super Six Conference with a 9-3 win at Farmville Central on Wednesday.

The Tigers improved to 13-2-2 overall and 8-0-1 in conference play heading into Monday's match at home with Rosewood.

Greene Central

TARBORO -- Tarboro defeated Greene Central 3-0 in a battle for second place in the Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference on Wednesday.

The loss drops the Rams (7-8-2 overall) to 2-3-1 in conference play. Greene Central hosts SouthWest Edgecombe on Monday. Tarboro is now 3-2-1 against conference foes.
