Prep cross country roundup

PIKEVILLE -- West Carteret's Matt Stallsworth and Gina Castro emerged with first-place finishes as the Patriots won a three-team, Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference cross country meet at Charles B.Aycock on Tuesday.
West Carteret's boys defeated the Falcons 23-32, while the Patriot girls claimed an 18-43 win. Neither Goldsboro team had enough runners to figure in the team scoring.
Micheal Scott emerged the Golden Falcon boys top runner with a second-place time of 17:37. Alan Toler (18:48), Dalton Denning (19:05), Daniel Stancil (19:12) and David Williams (19:25) also finished in the top-ten for Aycock.
Goldsboro's Montriel Hocutt finished 25th with a 25:37.
In the girls meet, Aycock's Kylie Justo took third with a 21:01. Falcon teammates Abby Caplinger (22:24) and Dominique Worrell (23:10) ran top-ten times. Goldsboro's top finisher was Charee Hagens with 31:33.
The ECC Championships are Oct. 26 at Boyd Lee Park in Greenville.
