MOREHEAD CITY -- Eastern Wayne's Andrew Corley broke a scoreless tie with two minutes left at West Carteret as the Warriors blanked the Patriots 1-0 on Monday.
Corley scored on an assist from Jin Lee for his 12th goal of the season.
Warrior goalie Steven Stackhouse finished with six saves in his sixth shutout of the season.
"We defended very well and limited West Carteret to relatively harmless crosses and long-range shooting," Eastern Wayne coach Jorg Wagner said. "We held our own in a very physical match and created chances, the very last of which Andrew stuck into the net."
The Patriots outshot the Warriors 15-8.
The win improved Eastern Wayne (11-4 overall) to 8-2 in the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference heading into Wednesday's match at home with Southern Wayne.
CBA's Davis sets single-season record
DUDLEY -- Charles B. Aycock's Garrett Davis tallied a natural hat trick (three-straight goals) in the second half to help boost the Golden Falcons to a 5-2 win at Southern Wayne on Monday.
Davis now has 36 goals on the year, eclipsing Matthew Waddell's 35-goal mark from last season.
Aycock jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by Rich Holder, before Southern Wayne's Mario Segura equalized the match before halftime.
Carson Sasser gave the Falcons a 2-1 edge four minutes into the second half. Davis went on to post three-straight goals in a 14-minute span midway through the half.
The Saints' Matt Graham finished the scoring in the 70th minute to make the score 5-2.
Jorge Delgado had two assists for Southern Wayne, while Davis, Tyler Mills and Bennett Jeffreys had one assist each.
Southern Wayne (2-9, 1-7 Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference) travels to West Carteret today.
Aycock returns to action next Monday at South Central.
ECC records
in dispute
West Carteret and Charles B. Aycock's conference marks and overall records are currently in dispute after the Patriots arrived an hour late for a 5 p.m. scheduled match last week at Hardy Talton Stadium.
No firm decision has been made on whether or not the match will be rescheduled or counted as a win for the Golden Falcons. If Aycock is credited with a win, West Carteret would be 6-2 in Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference play after Monday's loss to the Warriors, while the Falcons would jump to 7-3 in conference and 13-5 overall after the win over Southern Wayne.
Rams win
in double overtime
SNOW HILL -- Greene Central's Jonathan Mendez posted two goals, including the game-winner in the second overtime as the Rams defeated North Pitt 4-3 on Monday.
Stanley Hester and Mario Pulito added one goal each for Greene Central (7-7-2 overall), who improved to 2-2-1 in the Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference.
The Rams travel to Tarboro on Wednesday.
