WINCHESTER, Va. -- April Jacobs broke a scoreless tie with a goal late in the first half and Gina Dos Santos tallied a goal and an assist as Mount Olive defeated Shenandoah (Va.) University 2-0 in non-conference women's soccer Thursday afternoon.
Goalkeeper Heather Ressler posted her third consecutive shutout as the Trojans claimed their third consecutive win.
Mount Olive (12-2-0) had four corner kicks in the first 15 minutes of the first half, but could not get on the scoreboard.
The Trojans broke the deadlock in the 34th minute when Dos Santos crossed the ball to Jacobs, who recaptured the ball after a deflection off a defender and put home her fourth goal of the season as the Trojans went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
Jacobs has scored a goal in each of her last three matches.
Mount Olive struck early in the second half as Dos Santos scored on an assist from fellow Pennsylvanian Heidi Philip. Dos Santos, who has nine goals this season, has scored a goal in five of her last six matches. The assist is the 13th of the season for Philip, who ranks second in the nation in assists per game.
Ressler, who holds school single-season and career records for most shutouts, made three saves to extend the Trojan defense's scoreless streak to 286 consecutive minutes. The three consecutive shutouts are also a school record.
Mount Olive finished the match with a 22-3 shot advantage, but Shenandoah (5-9-1) was able to keep the match close, thanks to 13 saves by goalkeeper Lauren Elliott.
The Trojans continue their current three-game roadswing with a pair of contests against West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents in Charleston, W. Va., this weekend. The Trojans face Charleston Saturday, then take on West Virginia Tech Sunday.
