WASHINGTON -- Anthony Council rushed for 277 yards, scored three touchdowns and returned a kickoff for another touchdown in a Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference contest at Wagner Stadium.

Council broke loose for touchdown runs of 37, 30 and 10 yards; and his kickoff return covered 90 yards.

Backfield mates Emanuel Hinton, Joseph Legg and Dante Ashford combined for 70 rushing yards. Quarterback Michael Holland rambled for 100 yards, including a 70-yard touchdown jaunt, and threw for another 60 yards.

Antwan Chestnutt hauled in one pass for 45 yards.

Michael Allen spearheaded the Saints defense with a season-high 18 tackles. Dequan Cozart provided 11 tackles. Legg sacked the Pam Pack quarterback twice to go along with nine tackles.

Chestnutt contributed eight tackles. Andre Williams added a sack, while Jeremy Hargrove had a fumble hit. Dekevius Williams recovered the fumble.

Southern Wayne (5-2, 4-1 ECC) entertains Eastern Wayne next Thursday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Doyle Whitfield Athletic Complex.

MOREHEAD CITY -- Thomas Pilkington completed 10 of 17 passes for 194 yards and three touchdowns for the Golden Falcons in an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference contest Thursday evening.

Pilkington threw touchdown passes to Timothy Alston (53 yards), Nick Weaver (four yards) and Chris Foreman (26 yards). Pilkington also emerged Aycock's top rusher with 34 yards on five totes.

Travis Milligan paced the Golden Falcon defense with 10 tackles. Alston recorded seven stops, followed by Joseph Toler with six. Foreman contributed five tackles.

C.B. Aycock (6-1) entertains South Central next Thursday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Hardy Talton Stadium.

Goldsboro 42

Eastern Wayne 20

A.J. Holloway rushed for 102 yards and one touchdown as the Cougars ambushed the Warriors at Little Big Horn and remained in the hunt for an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference championship.

Holloway emerged one of three players to produce 100-yard efforts for Goldsboro, which improved to 6-2 overall heading into next Thursday's conference battle at Kinston.

Quarterback Tim Kornegay completed 8 of 13 passes for 145 yards and two touchdowns. Brandon Davis hauled in both touchdown receptions, which covered 26 and 69 yards. Davis finished with four catches for 114 yards.

Goldsboro coach Danny Merritt credited his offensive line for playing well. Brandon Stokes led the Cougar defense with seven tackles, including a second-quarter safety. Justin Hall provided six tackles. Kelvin James, Dante Love and Cedric McClary had five tackles apiece.

Orlando Midgett scored two first-quarter touchdowns on runs of 33 and 70 yards for the Warriors. He ended the day 151 yards on 20 totes. Backfield mate Andrew Blevins added 29 yards on five carries, including a fourth-quarter touchdown.

Melvin Lancaster had six tackles on defense. Alvino Daniels contributed five stops and one sack; while Midgett registered three tackles and intercepted an Eastern Wayne pass.

The Warriors (1-6, 0-5 ECC) travel to archrival Southern Wayne next Thursday.

Greene Central 46

North Lenoir 40

LAGRANGE -- Reggie Edwards' interception in the final minute secured the Rams' wild victory against the previously-unbeaten Hawks in an Eastern Plains 2-A Conference affair Thursday evening.

Cameron Shelton completed 10 of 15 passes for 166 yards and four touchdowns -- one each to Edwards, Trey Beamon, Curtis Braswell and Brian Thigpen. Thigpen's 61-yard grab sealed the victory for the Rams, who remained unbeaten in two EPC outings.

Shelton added a four-yard touchdown run.

Justin Tyson contributed two touchdowns on runs of two and 35 yards. He collected a team-leading 154 yards on just six carries. Braswell, Edwards and Tyson emerged the Rams' defensive leaders.

Greene Central (4-2) entertains SouthWest Edgecombe next Thursday, while North Lenoir (6-1, 1-1 EPC) is the guest of North Pitt. Each game kicks off at 7 p.m.

Middle schools

Spring Creek 28, Rosewood 14 -- Spring Creek's Tamarcus Ellis had 10 carries for 116 yards with touchdown runs of five, 26 and 36 yards. Ellis also had an 80-yard interception return for a touchdown. Allen Price tallied 10 tackles for the Gators, while Jabari Dos Santos added six tackles. Spring Creek finished at 4-4 overall and 3-1 in Division II play.

Norwayne 26, Grantham 6 -- Norwayne's Dominique Young had a 15-yard touchdown run and interception return for a touchdown. Bryan Diorio added a 50-yard run, while J.J. Woodard scored on a rush from 15 yards out. Andrew Poole had an interception for the Cobras as Diorio, Woodard and Daulton Lawallen emerged the defensive leaders for Norwayne in its season finale.

Dillard 40, Mount Olive 0 -- The Tigers (6-2) clinched the Wayne County Middle School Athletic Conference Division II title with an unblemished 4-0 mark. Reggie Gooding returned an interception 50 yards for a touchdown and added a 40-yard touchdown run. Antwan Pope contributed touchdowns on runs of 70 and 30 yards. Darrin Pittman added a rushing touchdown, while Maurice Artis snagged a 70-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jakkar Pettaway.

Eastern Wayne 36, Goldsboro 0 -- The Warriors earned a share of the WCMSAC Division I championship. Stacey Edwards rushed for 321 yards and five touchdowns. He and Antonio Cox each recorded a team-leading nine tackles on defense. Antonio Braswell added six tackles. Eastern Wayne finished 7-1 overall and 3-1 in Division I play.
