WARSAW -- The good news is James Kenan enters the girls dual-team tennis playoffs with some momentum after dismantling county rival Wallace-Rose Hill 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

The bad news?

Third-seeded Erica Brown, a junior, is out for the remainder of the season due to an ankle injury. Brown's absence leaves a void at No. 1 doubles and takes a 6-2 record out of the lineup.

"This really hurts us," veteran James Kenan coach Chip Hardy said. "We are going to do the best we can the remainder of the season without her. She will be missed."

Christa Jones, Allison Fonvielle, Beth Parrish, Brittany Crabtree, Megan Sanderlin and Lorry Chestnut each prevailed in singles. The teams played eight-game pro sets.

Jones-Fonvielle and Parrish-Crabtree easily cruised to victory in their respective doubles match. Amber Bass and Jessie Smith, the Nos. 7 and 8 players in the Tigers' lineup, triumphed at No. 3 doubles.

"Amber and Jessie played their finest match of the year," Hardy said.

James Kenan returns to action next Tuesday in the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 1-A dual-team playoffs. The Tigers will entertain Rosewood (11-6), the Carolina Conference runner-up at 4 p.m.
