Washington's Shane Mottler broke a scoreless tie in the 72nd minute at Eastern Wayne -- heading in a shot from close range as the Pam Pack escaped the Little Big Horn with a 1-0 win.

The loss drops the Warriors (10-4 overall) to 7-2 in the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference heading into a road clash with conference leader West Carteret on Monday. Washington (9-5-4 overall) improved its mark to 5-3-1 in conference play.

The Warriors outshot Washington 19-7 on the match and had six corner kicks to the Pam Pack's zero.

"Poor ball control, many missed chances in front of goal and, at times, very sloppy individual defending caught up with us towards the end of the match," Eastern Wayne coach Jorg Wagner said. "The conference title is our goal in every campaign. After this loss, we find ourselves needing help from someone else to beat West Carteret and win out at the same time."

Eastern Wayne goalie Steven Stackhouse had three saves.

PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock's soccer team, their fans and the referees waited for West Carteret to arrive at Hardy Talton Stadium for nearly an hour for Wednesday's 5 p.m. scheduled Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference match.

The Patriots finally arrived near 6 p.m., but the referees had already left and canceled the game.

No decision has been made on rescheduling of the match.

Williams, McGaughy

lift Hawks

LAGRANGE -- North Lenoir's Josh Williams and Alex McGaughy scored once each and dished out the assist on the other's goal as the Hawks dropped Tarboro 2-1 at home on Wednesday.

Williams' goal came at the 18:12 mark of the first half, while McGaughy scored at 27:31 in the second half.

North Lenoir (9-4-2, 3-1-0 Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference) travels to East Duplin on Monday in a non-conference game.

Gators slip

at home

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Spring Creek's Darwin Aldana and Ricky Galloway scored one goal each as the Gators fell 4-2 at home to Farmville Central on Wednesday.

The loss drops Spring Creek (3-10 overall) to 2-7 in the Class 1-A Carolina/Super Six Conference.

Aldana scored in the last five minutes of first half to push the Gators ahead 1-0 going into the second half. Galloway's goal tied the match at 2-2 nearly 15 minutes into the half.

The Jaguars scored two goals in the final eight minutes to secure the win.

Spring Creek hosts Ayden-Grifton on Monday.

Eagles fall

in CCC tournament

CARY -- Wayne Christian's Matt Davis scored in the 50th minute on an assist from Eric Williams, but the Eagles were bounced from the Carolina Christian 1-A Conference tournament by Cary Christian -- 3-1 on Tuesday.

Cary Christian, the No. 1 seed from the North Divison of the conference, scored twice in the first half and once in the second.

The Eagles' Ethan Ipock had a whopping, 27 saves.

Wayne Christian, a team with 10 freshman on its roster, concluded the season at 4-11-2 overall.
